Flashing Service engine soon light

Mine just started doing this today. And now the car is running real rough. And there is a strong smell of gas. The car also does not have as much power. Its not running in safe mode, had that happen before. Its just runs really rough.

To me it seems as if one of the plugs are not firing or maybe a coil pack. I have a O2 sensor on the driver side and it is reading fine. So i assume its on the passenger side.

Tomorrow i am going to Auto Zone to see what the cell is.

What do you guys think?

Thanks
Todd

If your SES light is flashing it indicates that a misfire event is occuring at that time.

It happened to me a month back when I was still NA.. I had LOW OIL so you might want to check that. I took it to the dealer and they told me I was low after changing my oil just 2500 miles ago.. Def let the car sit for 20 mins then check it..

So, what do you think might be causing a missfire. Car has been running great since i have owned it. And i have not made ANY changes to it in over 5 months.

Plug filed out? Coil pack going bad?

Could be spark blow out. Maybe a spark plug is fouled. Or maybe a coil pack died. You mentioned it smells like gas and is running rich... It sounds to me like on or more cyliners is not combusting...

Yep, thats what i think is happening. I know its not the drivers side. I have a UTEC installed and the 02 sensor is on that side. It reads fine and is not rich. So i assume its on the passenger side. I guess i will head to Auto Zone tomorrow and see what the code is. That way i know which cylinder is causing the issue.

Well, just got back from Auto Zone. It is a misfire and it looks like cylinder #5 code(P0305) Passenger side rear.

Here is the funny thing though. The drive over and back the car ran just fine. No issues at all. So before i order plugs or a Coil pack. What can i do to narrow it down?

Going to check that plug tomorrow to see what it looks like.

Thanks Guys

I don't know if this is mentioned, but SES in a steady glow means there is an error code. Flashing usually means there is a more serious problem and requires immediate attention.

I've had my CEL flash at me like 2 or 3 times now when just starting up the car (seemed like once in a while over a couple weeks). It only lasted a couple seconds before going back to a solid cel. Hmm probably time to pull teh codes.

The ECU will flash the CEL when a misfire event is occuring. Trust me on this. I would pull the plug and see if its fouled first before you go buying a new coilpack..

That was my first thought too. BUt i checked it, and its topped off

Well the car ran fine all day today so i got the oil changed. Tomorrow i plan on checking to see if the plug is fouled out or not. Looks like a new coil is almost $80. So i hope its just a little plug.

Thanks for your help guys.
