Default supercharger and blow off valve

I have the ATI procharger kit and I want to replace the bypass valve with a blow off valve and vent to the outside rather than returning the air back through the supercharger. Is there anyone out there with a vortech kit or an ATI kit that has installed a blow off valve and could help me out with which brand to get and how to do the install.

Thanks.

IIRC Vortech kits come with BOV's or are sold optional, they are also very loud...you can just buy a BOV of choice, weld the BOV flange on a charge pipe and run it.

Is the bypass valve before or after the mass air meter. I ask this question becuase I come from a mustang backgroup. On a mustang vortech kit the bypass is after the mass air, so if you purge that air that has already been metered by the mass air it is going to cause a rich condition. If the bypass valve is before the mass air meter it doesnt mater.

you can put in a bov, but make sure it's strong enough to hold constant boost and opens under vacuum...fwiw, greddy type RS doesn't work...you can try Tial or HKS or buy the Vortech Mondo

I have the exact question as well. I saw that Turbo XS has a bypass valve but it was for high boost conditions so wasn't sure. i wanna upgrade mine too. Might try the Turbo XS bov that i already have and see how that works.

Let us know how it works out!...

I am looking into running a wastegate w/ a 10lb spring before the vortech purge valve and the IC, and then increase my pulley to a 2.8... this way I can bleed off the pressure keeping to 10psi and getting full boost earlier in the powerband and hold it to redline (in theory anyway)

I don't know where you heard this from...the vortech valve actually works very well...

Triji, I am in the process of doing this myself right now. I ordered a reichard racing 2.6 and 2.8 pulleys, Greddy Profec and a Tial 38mm. I will post results once finished. The main problem we forsee right now is getting the Tial to fit (it's rather tall). If I can get an extra couple lbs at 3k rpm, I'll be a happy camper

You have to make sure the bov opens under vacuum. Not every bov will work. The Greddy RS, for example, can not handle constant boost and doesn't know whether to stay open or closed, so it sputters and sounds retarded. Not to mention, I was getting a high pitched shreek from the compressor indicating surge (very bad).

I have had my Bypass BOV that came with my kit for almost 3 years with no problems with it . Im running 13 to 14.9 psi with it . Vortech sent me a softer spring for it when I went to the T-trim blower . Works great !!!

Had problems with my stock ATI bypass. SGP Racing replaced it with a GReddy Type S and love it.

Ionno man, but when I tried the type RS, it fluttered and I was getting compressor surge. I even tried removing the inner spring and it didn't work. Kudos to you for getting it to work.

I've heard of a few guys having issues with the RS. I did have good results after some adjustments with the Type S/Vortech on my previous car.

Yeah, I noticed the S had more success...I think it's mainly to do with the fact that it's bigger and can hold more boost...the RS wasn't meant to hold constant boost, i don't think...

I'm using a TiAL BOV with a -9psi spring on my Procharger..

I have the upgraded pully and am at 9.5 PSI..

When you take out the old ATI bypass valve take a look at the diaphram inside against some light.. it's not 100% sealed.. you are losing boost!

here's what the TiAL looks like (I don't have it at the stock position):

I think the trick to getting a normal BOV to work with a SC . Is BOV placement . The Vortech has there Bypass BOV on the pipe between the blower and the IC . A normal BOV will work if it is placed between the IC and Throtttlebody , before the MAS . There is good and bad points for both set ups

Leemik's pic shows the BOV between the IC and TB before the MAS .

What about putting one before the Vortech Bypass blowoff valve to vent the extra pressure above lets say 10.5 psi. put it on after the blower and before the blowoff valve behind the IC...
