I run mobil 1 on my tt 300zx and just got a tt 350z that I'm building a motor on. I was going to run RP on my 300zx but it's gotten some bad reviews by independent motor oil testers. Amsoil always rates #1 and mobil 1 is usually in a close 2nd.

Links to these reviews please.

This is simply not the case as SEVERAL reviews have been done independently that prove otherwise on this very site.

Amsoil would never be rated #1, except by amsoil themselves. What makes this even more entertaining is the fact that Mobile 1 isnt even a true synthetic, yet your saying they are usually a close 2nd.

Edit: Where is Motul and Lucas synthetics in all of this?

Before the F/I, I used Mobil 0W40 synthetic. Once I installed APS ST, I only use Motul 300V 10W40. I hear it burns off a little, but Motul is called the "magic oil".. A race team head mechanic is a friend of mine, and he stands by his word... He tears apart engines and rebuilds them almost every week, and if he says Motul is the S$*T, I believe him...

I used RP and will never use it again. I changed from Mobile 1 to see how it was, and with only 2k miles on the oil I spun a rod bearing. RP might not have been the main issue of why the bearing spun, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth for RP.

Very interesting. I've got some questions of my own, but I guess I'll start a new thread instead of cluttering up his.

What is your opinion on this independent study?

Ams Oil VS Mobil 1

http://www.thefirstsyntheticoil.com/...comparison.htm

Oh, but they are not independent studies because AMSOIL executives reported this.... Hence the first syntheticoil.com is an AMSOIL slogan/website.... How can you actually get an independent study when there probably isnt any non biased....

you can get independent analysis done by sending your own oil in and testing it against other brands.

If it comes from a manufacturer it is biased to read better for their product (of course)

You can order an oil anaylsis kit from here.
http://store.avlube.com/index.html

run royal purple for 3000 miles, then Amsoil for 3000 miles then Mobile 1 for 3000 miles and review the test results for yourself.

Motul will blow them ALL away.

Try any of the others mentions here. or try moving up to 10w40 with the Mobile 1 and see if you notice a difference.

I also noticed a lot of burn off when I ran the Mobile 1 back when I was NA

I have had great results with Royal Purple. Zero burn off.

I am still debating using some Motul at this point to see how it works.

I thought you ran Motul before because you said it would blow RP/AMS/Mobil 1 away....

What brings you to that conclusion then? What did you see?

Motul is a full synthetic motor oil that is Ester based. Basicly the motor oil will last a lot longer than most anything else on the market. It leaves a film on the internals that help lubricate during cold start (RP does this also). Oil anaylsis will show Motul to break down less than most anything else on the market.

Castrol's European Blend is also a great oil.
