Default single vs. twin powerband....

havin recently let go off my tt setup, im soon 2 purchase another setup. however, i am considering the tn single turbo. how is the powerband compared 2 the greddy tt, which spools quick and pulls hard. i assume the single would spool after sum lag, but pull stronger up top. also any info on the setup (boost spikes, etc) would b helpful. thanks guys.

Turbonetics is to small of a turbo so it falls off at like 5500 rpms.

The stock TN turbo does fall off some up top. If you want a ST I would suggest a different snail, one that's ball bearing for increased spool. Of course, I would recommend twins....

The Turbonetics turbo used on the Stage 1 kit is a ball bearing unit.

If you are attempting to make 650+ RWHP of course a 60-1 / Stage V is too small. The kit was designed for 380-420 RWHP not 1,000 WHP.

True it was designed for around 400whp. I was going to purchase one for my Z before the engine blew up and keep it around 380whp. Most people want more than 400 when they have a taste of 400hp.

my cousin needed sum financial help, so i sold my greddy 2 a friend. now my z is weak again, so ive been drivin the evo tryin 2 make up 4 it, buth thats not doin it very much either. in comparison 2 the tt setup, when does the tn get full boost? if it drops off at 5500, thats a relatively weak powerband, assuming it spools up around 4k?

His reference to dropping off at 5500 RPMs is when you are running 13-15 PSI of boost going for 500 WHP on a built motor. With the stock motor at the out of box boost level it does not drop off.

Heres a dyno of my car:

If you want no more than around 420whp, the ST is nice for the $$$. I had the pleasure of owing both a TN kit in the past and a Greddy kit now. My TN + stock block pulled like a beast-116mph trap in the dead of summer near 100 degrees. If you want more than this power, right now your only option is to do a twin set-up. BTW-the way the TN power comes on around 4000rpm's was ridiculous, I loved it.

No more then 9.5 PSI on the stock block and even then I'd be careful. These motors do ok with boost stock but the 425 WHP level seems to be the breaking point...

But how big a snail could you use given a simple pistons/rods build? I think the TN kit comes with a 60-1 so maybe a pt67HO or even a 76?

When I was at the Autobacs meet a while back and TN had that special I think they were offering the kit installed for like 5K?? which seemed awesome for the power but I was still researching kits then.....as far as Cali goes it seems like JWT-TT or take your chances with the cops

I would love a TT setup pushing tons of boost but to really take advantage of it you have to build, if your gonna build your gonna spend lots of $$$$.....the TN kit seems like a reasonable mid grade setup with room to grow if you build ie larger snail

How many TN kits have failed? Any 06 updates yet?

I'm scheduled for Dyno time in Hawaii at the end of this month. Just waiting on my new order to hopefully come in next week.

As long as the standard TN wastegate can support about 450-475WHP should be nice to see what happens with the GTM Turbo cams.

Stage 2 is still being worked on... The General Manager's G35 is the test car and has been on and off the dyno for a few weeks.

the powerband on my TN still falls up after 5500rpms..
I don't know why some people's kit don't and some people's kit do.
But, the powerband thing is a little overrated.
Anyways, I love the kit! (at least on the stock block!)

Lots of slightly incorrect information in this thread...

And yes, my kit makes power well before 4k rpms but is still slightly lacking on the top end. This is partially because it's still on a reflash and is rediculously retarded timing up top. I'm fairly certain that the turbonetics kit has the best midrange out of the box power of any kit I've experienced, but does lack a little on the at 5500+ where the tuned TT setups excel.

If I ever decide it's worth it to tune my car I'll post up some graphs to see what it pulls out. It won't be TT upper range but won't be as bad as people here make it out to be.
