Default Vortech making a squeal

Vortech has a nice squeal to it right now. I need to find out the name of the part that is making the noise so I can order from Vortech. I have a list of the parts with their corresponding numbers, just don't know the name of the part that is making the jacked up squealing noise. It is the item on the backside of the mounting plate which connects to the jackshaft pulley on the front of the plate.

Are you talking about the cog [toothed pulley ] on the back side of the jackshaft ? Take a pic and circle it

Is it a squeal or a rattle? Just at startup, or all the time.

It is the black piece that the cog pulley connects to although there is no way for me to tell if it is the cog pulley itself or whatever that black piece is called.

More like a squeal. It is most of the time after startup.

Here are pics from Sentry's car. I've circled the part in yellow.

As a test, can you spray some lube on that pulley and see if the squeak stops? Is that belt reasonably tight?

I would think it would only be two things . [1] your belt is not tight enough . [2] The jackshaft bearings maybe going bad .

Also..make sure the bolts on both sides of the jackshaft that hold both pulleys on , are tight

I thought about doing that but wasn't sure it was ok to do. I can give it a try.

Yes, the belt is tight.

The belt is pretty tight.

I'd like to think that the bearings couldn't be going bad this fast (2000 miles max on the kit since new), but since it's a Vortech, nothing would amaze me.

So, do you know what that part is called, so I can call Vortech on Monday to order it?

That is the jackshaft and would be covered if it is still under warranty

So the whole unit is called the jackshaft? I know the pulley that gets changed out is the jackshaft pulley and the pulley directly behind it is the cog pulley.

I'm not about to take off the entire setup though in order to get it covered by warranty. How difficult is changing the jackshaft parts while on the mounting plate?

Im pretty sure it is bolted onto the bracket . You would have to pull both pulleys off to find out for sure . Vortechs web site should have a jackshaft on it for sale . I still would try calling them and see if you could only send in the jackshaft .

Called Vortech this morning. They want me to send them the entire mounting plate for them to fix it. They don't want to sell me just the parts to replace. The guy who I talked to (Gary) told me that it was all done in tolerances and that I couldn't just do it myself. Although he kept putting me on hold to get information from someone else there.

Have you taken apart your jackshaft before Booger? I'm pretty sure there's nothing special about it, but just want to make sure. I definitely do not want to take the entire setup apart to send to them. With their reputation for customer service, my car could be down for weeks on end.

No I have never taken it off . You cant really blame Vortech for wanting you to send in the whole bracket with jackshaft attatched . Its a pain in the a$$ to have to send it to them . You live in Cali. why not drive it up or down to them ?

You've never taken it off? I was reading some posts where I know you at least changed the front pulley.

Getting the bracket there is not the problem. I definitely do not want to take apart the whole vortech setup for these guys. I have no idea why they won't just sell me the parts. I could care less about their "warranty" if I'm gonna have to have the car down for weeks while they take their sweet time with the parts in addition to the time to uninstall and reinstall the whole bracket assy.

If they just will not sell you a new jackshaft . It could be that it is pressed into the bracket and has to be fitted correctly...dont know .
