Default Is this a good deal? quote from V R T

Dear fellow z members,

I am not a knowledgable person compare to you all and was wondering if this quote from V R T is a good deal or not. I just retyped the product listing. It is 20,000 for:

JWT kit dual bb700 gt 28 ball bearing turbos
JWT High flow intercooler
fuel/ boost pressure regulator and voltage increase
1 below stock spark plug
forge rods
arias low compression piston
head work if necessary
split second timing / fuel / air piggback computer (doesnt say make)
upgraded 530 + injector
255 fuel pump
oil cooler
nissan gasket / seal
vrt radiator and oil cooler

intial tuning as well as motor breaking

and valve body upgrade and torque convertor for extra 2000 and installed

thanks alot for helping me out

Seems about right for a built engine and turbo kit. Its around 10k$ for the engine build and around 10k$ for the turbo kit. Add in labor somewhere and your right in the ball park.

Since you are getting the jwt700bb turbos you might look into getting at least some 750cc injectors. Definatley do the auto tranny upgrades and get a price on paper before you commit to anything so you wont go over it. My engine build cost me more because i had to buy another block, no core charge for me.

You didn't mention anything about the head gaskets, injector size, which piggy back ( split second?), which rods. What kind of head work. You can build a nice motor with cams for under 10k plus install. If I were you I would want an exact parts list of what I'm getting that list is to vague. Are you buying a jwt tt kit and then upgrading the turbos? I see a lot of questions that are still left. Research and learn what your getting into with a automatic transmission and that kind of power.

you should also shop around and see what other shops are charging for the same thing. GT Motorsports is close to you and also sell and install the JWT kits, but with them you will have a wide variety of aftermarket piggybacks and stand alone tuners, other than just the Split Second Box that VRT uses.

you could also look to relentless autosports (WA2good) on the forum

My engine with JWT S7 cams, 1/2" head studs, HKS head gaskets and installed by built Z motors came out under 10k$ installed. The cams did drive up the price more though. Around 1200$ or so. I also had to get my heads reworked, they were nearly destroyed. I will turbo it this summer hopefully. Hell i havent even had my car for a year.

"headwork if necessary"?

Headwork isn't cheap...and if you're not getting it done, you need to get that money back. I'd ask for an EXACT list of work/parts/labor involved, and the breakdown on pricing for each, including the breakdown of labor in hours, and what you are paying per hour.

But they usually do good work.

Good luck.

Valve stem guides and seals, it couldnt hurt to put new ones in while the heads are out.

My initial reaction while reading this thread was that it was very tacky to post this.

After reading VRT's comments, I must say that was very professional...kudos for not getting upset.

+1, but post #2 made me literally spit at my computer (trying to hold the laughter in).. Pretty unprofessional of the OP if you ask me.. PMs would suffice.. IMHO..

I am curious as to what your objectives are, plans for the car, performance, power; have you done anything to improve the drivability/control of the car, suspension, rigidity, etc.

Rebuilding a block is not inexpensive; take every opportunity to get it done right the first time around.

It is not just how cheap you can get the job done, but more to get it done right. It is easy for people to quote you a price that is way below the market price; but will end up costing you much, much more, at the end of the day.

The BB700/s itself will cost you about 10K if not more, especially if you add in the EMS. You may, however, get some cost relieve, if you stay with the JWT split-second box.

I doubt that the cost is inclusive of porting the heads

Good Luck

G

agreed, kinda tacky... I'm not saying it's wrong to post this, but you shouldn't mention the shop name. Let's say they are making some deals with you, or knocking down prices here and there... If I was an older customer of VRT, I would be comparing my receipts and wondering wtf, why did you get a better deal. :two cents:
