Default Possible Fuel Leak

For those who have had fuel leaks, where are the most common places people have experienced leaks? I noticed a gas smell in my garage, but I was running late to work and didn't get a chance to look around. We're planning on getting the car up today and do a thorough inspection. I didn't see any puddles or anything of that sort though.... btw, I have the CJ Motorsports Stage II system.

A few more tidbits... I filled up the gas until it was full, drove for about 8-9 miles afterwards...then parked in the garage. I noticed the small in the garage the next morning, which has not gone away in 2 days.

It depends what you have done. My car leaked because occasionally the o-ring doesn't seat properly when reinstalled after a intank pump install such as the Walbro pump. Phunk stated that occasionally the factory o-ring will expand during use and once you take it out and try to put it back in it can be difficult to get it perfect.

Otherwise possibly the return line fitting at the pump if you have a return system installed.

Is it a 2003? The fuel filler was prone to breaking.. I think there was a recall for it.

The most common spot for a leak, is in the fuel pump assembly area. Pop off the inspection cover, and take a look.

If the smell occurs after a fuel fill-up, then its almost definately the cause of the leak/smell.

You really have to tighten down those fittings on a RFS, so double check that as well as checking the o-ring on the top of the gas tank. Or could be the fuel filler tube like mentioned above.

Just fixed a fuel leak on the AAM return...took off the service cover and inspected the pump assembly. It turned out to be a washer that separated the return line and the oem pump...horrible connection. the washer itself had basically disintegrated. Before this the smell after filling up was horrible and on initial statup...but now its fantastic. Replaced the part w/ a honda washer and some plumbers goo. Corner 3 garage was a big help.

I hope that's not what it is, because they have to drop the fuel tank to do that repair, and they'd have no idea what to do when they see those aftermarket fuel lines!

I would guess it is leaking around the O-ring that seals the fuel assmebly. if they don't sit just right, or get any amount of fuel on them, they can leak.

I had the same thing happen to me, gas leaked down the hard line where you would think it was coming from there, but really it was the O-ring needed to be changed. When comparing the new O-ring to old one, the new O-ring could pretty much sit inside the old one due to stretching.

Thats what I thought about mine. They didn't even tell me they were going to do it. Other wise I wasn't gonna let them do to the aftermarket lines. But everything seems to be alright.

I had a nasty leak when I ran the AAM RFS. Had to replace the damn o-ring 3 times before they made me a custom cap piece for it...
