Removing the front grill to let your intercooler show?
Guys... are there any benefits sto removing your front grill to let your intercooler show (and does it even matter, as far as cooling?)? I was thinking about doing this, but I don't know that I'd want to drive around like that for too long... you know, cops, rocks, and other things that might cause me all kinds of grief.
Also, how would you go about doing it? I know this is more of a question for the body work forum, but I wanted to hear from FI people who have/have not done this.
Thanks!
P.S. I searched for this topic, but couldn't find anything

Mine has been like that for 2 years. It's for show, nothing more. I wouldnt do it in cali on a non-carb certified FI kit. The intercooler fins will most likely get bent up by rocks and debris, but you can go in and straighten them with a flathead screwdriver if need be.
I live in socal and have had the intercooler showing ever since I had the kit, about 6 months. No damage from rocks but i don't really off road. LOL. I have only been pulled over once and the cop just asked why my radiator was sticking out so far.
Mine is been removed/open for 45K miles and its still in one piece. It has its share of bent fins, but like Taurran mentioned, you can straighten them out, but I am too lazy to do that.
In terms of airflow, probably doesnt help a whole lot. I do think it looks much much better when its trimmed out.

Show it off!

and then buy one of these puppies to straighten the fins when needed!
(any one will do, lots of types to choose from)
