Default stock block + greddytt+ nitrous = fun!!

hey guys, playing around with a Z today with stock motor in it. this car has been a great customer here at Performance Factory since day one. we installed a nitrous setup for him a week or two ago to add some more power and try to get some better 1/4 mile times from it. the car is a 05 Z with a greddy tt kit, all controlled by the utec. here are some graphs. we decided just to start with a 35 shot with a larger fuel jet. his AFRs under nitrous runs are mid to high 10s , again for safety.

wow, what a fun stock block car!! he will take it to the track very soon, he ran 12.2s with right over 400 so he should be able to get some mid 11s with the current setup.. only issue with the car right now is that the WG is sticking, it will build a small boost level, then die off just a bit, then build full boost, its kinda weird and thats why the second graphs look a bit wavy.

Graph one is wastegate springs. 4.8 psi with and without 35 shot

second one is right around 10 psi, also a 35 shot. we added a couple gallons of C16 just to make sure the car didnt let go...

Good numbers. Why did you or the owner decide on nitrous to increase hp #'s, rather then perhaps purchasing a water/meth injection kit, and turn up the boost a little and a good tune? Just curious really, why more people dont use water/meth kits on their Z's. This seems like it would have been the perfect time for it.

yes guys, shane finally reached his dreams hehehe

RA, i know he has a block in CA getting sleeved and 1/2 inch head studs in it, i didnt think you guys had it though but i am not sure.

i know shane is going to the track this week for sure.

the reason that you add nitrous to a setup is because it has instant tq that a turbo cant create. this instant tq is great for launching (with traction) on a drag strip. im sure he could cut high 1.5s with the right tire here on his setup...

Very nice to see this, Im surprised more built cars dont run N20, but most tuners wont mess with boost + nitrous Jeremy, how much timing did you pull with the N20 over just the boost for that small a shot?

niiiiiiiiiice. I love the gas. Cooling the intake charge is definitely a plus, especially with just a 35 shot....not too much to worry about when sprayin that. Another great creation at Performanc Factory. WTG Jeremy!

Theres no reason to spray water/meth when you have nitrous.

I guess increasing power levels without adding a nitrous kit isnt a legit reason? Id rather have a meth tune rather than a high boost + race gas + N20 tune, and the meth is more consistent. My friend with N20 in his Z cant even hot lap 2X down the track (consitently) even with a heater cuz his pressure drops so much between runs.

hehe, just don't tell that to the guys that say the lag is a non-issue
even at 5000+ rpms launches

yeah sometimes, sometimes not

here's a celica dyno, yeah technically not "vtec" but same thing only toyota's version

It's more efficient to just dial back boost a little with nitrous on top. Of course, this isn't a road racing car. It's set up for the 1/4mi. Who cares about consistently lap after lap then?

Who says its more efficient do you have proof? If its set up for the 1/4 mile, how gay is it to wait 10 minutes for your bottle pressure to raise back up to optimal before your next run? You dont have that issue with meth-the meth will last muc hlonger than the N20. What about on the street? If your relying on that N20 vs a fast car every run you will be slower due to bottle pressure dropping and not having a chance to go up. I dunno how much drag racing you do/have done, but I care about consistency, I dont accept a personal best until I run within .1 of that time. And before you tell me that turbo alone will heat soak Ive run 2 11.99's back to back hot lapping on a 100 degree day. Different mindsets I suppose, you take your N20, I'll take a meth map and I'll beat you 9/10....

OT-but VVTL-I (Toyota-think GTS 2ZZ)) is similar to I-VTEC (K series) technology found on newer Hondas, they have intake AND exhaust cam timing as opposed to just intake cam timing on old VTEC cars (B, H series). Some do have that jump, some are linear, so bigbody isnt neccessarily correct in his post above.
