Default Thinking of boosting soon...

Hey guys,
Newer member here, been browsing the forums for well over a year, but only recently bothered to sign up (because I only recently upgraded from my modded altima 3.5 to a 350z).

I'm very seriously considering boosting over at performance factory, but I wanted some second (and third/fourth?) opinions, if possible.

Currently, the plan is-
Drop in a greddy TT w/ the evo TT exhaust, and all the gimmicks (IC, gauges, fuel pump, tuning w/ emanage, etc), on a stock block, at stock boost. In appx. 1 year, swap out the engine for a built motor.

I've discussed this with them, and was assured that a greddy TT is safe on stock block at the stock boost... which I believe is 9 psi, correct me if I'm wrong.

The thing is, I need my car for my job. No car, no work, no income, no Z. So, downtime isn't an option for me. Does this sound like a safe setup? Eventually with the built motor, I'm going to order a built one from one of the recommended sites listed here at my350z, and just have them swap it.

Questions are-
Does this sound like a good idea?
Does this sound safe (in terms of downtime)?
Any ideas/recommendations as to alternatives?

Thanks for your feedback, all. Good to be in the my350z community.

Don't do it if you can't afford downtime with the car. It WILL happen eventually no matter how great the install and tune is.

Definitely NOT a good idea on a DD, especially if your income depends on you having your car up and running

It is relatively safe, but you will have downtime -

Any ideas/recommendations as to alternatives?
Buy a true daily driver... that should be your first FI modification for your Z.

when you nearly double the whp of the car, you must expected the unexpected. You are going to have some sort of issue along the way and your car will be down at some point. Maybe for a day with a small issue, maybe for 2-3 months with a full rebuild. If your income relies on your car getting you around, it would be beyond foolish to boost it. If you are serious about it, get a true daily driver and work on the car at that point

If you got 10 grand for a turbo and all the 'gimmicks', you should have 2 grand for a beater car. i've superchared 2 integra gs-r's and turbo'd one. the biggest headache is one month can turn to 5 when it come to FI'ing a NA car. btw, stock boost is 6 psi on a greddy tt. you can turn it up to 9, but you are working on borrowed time. i ran 10psi on an aps st kit for about a year and a half with no problems. but i recently built the motor, not because i was having problems, but because a hole in the block will tack on another 2 grand or so on top of a built short block. long story short, if you rely on this vehicle for your livelyhood, don't go FI cuz it's a gamble. i spent 1500 on a POS neon and i'm thankful when my car has to sit because i have a backup. my .02

After some serious consideration, and reading the responses here, I've decided to avoid the FI for now. Seems too risky when I can't afford months of downtime. Now the question becomes something different... and I will probably get flamed for this, but I'll ask anyway, because I am much more familiar with my altima than I am with this new Z. Are bolt-ons worth it? I mean on the altima, I dropped with I/E/H from a 14.8 stock to a 14.06... would I experience a drop to low 13s with, say, I/E/H, tune, and like cams or something, while still keeping it safe?

If this question is best directed elsewhere, please let me know. I can stomach dropping 3-4k into some bolt-ons + tuning etc, and upping the HP by 50-60 much easier than I can stomach dropping 11-12k into a TT kit for an extra 150 HP and blowing the engine on my Z.

EDIT: And before I get flamed for saying "cams" in the same sentence as "bolt-ons", yes I know they aren't bolt-ons, just something that popped into my head...

Good advice in this thread. If you do even 5.6psi, I wouldnt run the Greddy emanage, Id run the UTEC at a minimum.

As far as bolt-ons that depends if you can drive-everybody thinks they can online though. I went from 13.77 @ 101.4 stock with 240whp to 262whp with bolt-ons (stock headers AND cams) and a mail in tune. I then ran 13.13 @ 107mph. Car had 12's in it, I didnt-launching like a puss will do that. If that is quick enough for you, go that route and enjoy a mostly trouble free route....good luck.
