Talking Autoweek confirms 345RWHP from Greddy Turbo kit....

Sorry if this is a repost......

I read the article in Autoweek about the GReddy turbo kit. Autoweek claims to have driven the turbo car. More info they give:

-$3,700 in parts for the bolt on kit (dunno if that includes the SEXXXXY front mount intercooler)
-5.6 psi of boost (very low/safe level)
-They claim 345rwhp vs. 244rwhp for a stock car (~100rwhp gain!)

For around $5-6K, carb legal, this kit will be a bargain!
Did I miss anything???

peace

no, but I don't think $3700.00 will cover the price of a TWIN TURBO setup. You basically gets TWO turbos, TWO manifolds. For that price, it would be a killer! maybe it's Greddy's COST?

It does sound too good to be true. Autoweek is a fairly respected car magazine, so chances are, it's probably quite accurate.

GReddy would not reveal their cost price, think about it from a business stand point.......

As far as I know I don't think GReddy is working on more than one turbo kit, are they? The twin turbo setup? So yeah, I'm sure its the TT kit.

If Autoweek already DROVE the car, hopefully they will get the damn thing out soon!

waiting patiently......

It will be for sure a 12 sec car. People that are spraying a 100hp shot are running very close to that time. A $5k-6k price seems pretty fair considering its a twin turbo setup, and all the engine management that the system includes (e-manage, boost controller), and that fat FM intercooler.

We just have to be patience and wait.

I dunno... I believe this could be correct pricing. $4K for just the kit would be about right. Of course, you then have to find some to install it properly... and the nice intercooler is probably extra. So, after kit, install, and intercooler, your probably talking $6-6.5K. That sounds about right.

Wish they would give us some release dates. I'm ready to order mine now!!!!

just read the Autoweek article. It states prices are "less bolt on costs". So, it would seem, the $3700 is just the cost of the kit w/o install.

Yeah. Also, by the looks of it, the front mount intercooler is included in the $3,700. Awesome!

Wow....I'm seriously considering this kit.

I've heard nothing bad about it, my only question.

Anyone know long term effects if it's kept at recommeded boost?

The only problem I see is:

I hope Autoweek did NOT pull that number out of their ***. Putting such an article into print made a LOT of people consider this kit (including me). Very low boost + 100 wheel HP at a CRAZY LOW PRICE (my opinion) $3,700 plus labor/tuning (if any necessary)/etc. = Bad ***

Around 400 flywheel HP sounds about right for the "claimed" 345 wheel HP

I will definitely buy this kit if that price is reasonably accurate. I wonder how much boost the TD05H 18G units can support. It says only 5.6lbs as tuned, but if you were to install a better head gasket that engine may be able to support up to 10+lbs.

Long terms effects? You always give some longevity away for performance.....

I knew a guy with a 240sx turbo (stock 2.4L engine w/ a turbo kit). He had like 50k miles with the turbo, if I remember correctly, with no problems. He was running ~8 or 9 lbs or so.

Such low boost should not effect our cars too much, hopefully (if properly tuned)

The things to worry about will be clutch, drivetrain, rear tires, haha.

You can run low boost for the street and daily driving, then turn the boost at the track, 12psi + race fuel + good tuning = some wicked power and insane ET's.

I have a hard time believing that the kit will be $3700 for the entire package if you assume whats in the Greddy Z right now. The $3700 can be assumed to be a Greddy list price...go to the greddy.com page and check the list prices for the turbo kits (they don't include intercoolers), intercoolers, and e-manage. I would say to have the identical system in the Greddy car would be in the neighborhood of $6k without install if you add up cost for the intercooler and emanage system...you also have to include initial development costs as inevitably the prices of these kits go down over time.

The Z unit is running TWIN TD-05H turbines...any of the kits using the TD05 are running single turbo and are listed at $3k-3500. The 23row intercooler (the greddy Z is using this) is another $1780-2150. Plus emanage and the cost of another turbine and exhaust manifold would make the price of $3700 highly unlikely.
