I have only put 8k on my Vortech and I think I have a bearing problem. The supercharger was making a loud whining funky sound I couldn't go through drive through). My mechanic looked at and thought definately a bearing and un hooked s/c. Anyone else have this issue and what was problem?
Do the whine get louder as the rpms climb? Probably the bearings in the jackshaft. A few of us have already replaced those bearings. Let me see if I can find my old video of the problem.

They wanted me to send the whole unit in so they could diagnose it themselves. But after talking to a couple people who had the same problem, I knew it was the jackshaft. There are two bearings that go in there. I didn't want to wait weeks for a problem that could be fixed in a day. So I ordered the two bearings @ $10 each and had them replaced.
Here a video of the noise: http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n...t=MOV03078.flv
Here is a semi-DIY:

yeah I wouldn't mess with the vortech warrenty unless the blower itself seems to be bad. The time it'd take you to take out the blower, ship it to them, wait, wait more, get it back just isn't worth the small money out of pocket expense of buying the parts and getting it fixed on your own
I had a jackshaft bearing go bad. The specific part ended up being like $100, but wasn't too bad to replace my mechanic said. It was really worn down - still have it. Looks like someone took it and put a grinder to it and really dug into the metal

I've also replaced the jackshaft bearings. PITA, but better than dealing with Vortech.
To diagnose better, we really need to know where exactly the sound is coming from. Pics of your setup wouldn't hurt either.

need new bearings bro, sorry to say
NEXT TIME
1- install the idler pully corectly
2- do not tighten the $hit out of it
I got 15k miles on the vortech and 0 problems. no slippage unless its a super hot day like 100 degrees and still on the same belt as day one.

The sound seems to be comming from the right pulley. I have disconected belt from S/C and all is quiet. Could I have messed things up by putting 3:12 pulley kit on. A slight vibration under hood at 70mph after kit was installed. Do you need to mess with idler pulley when installing 3:12?

You maybe able to eliminate what bearing is bad [ jackshaft or tentioner ]
Chances are that it is the tentioner pulley bearing then . BUT...it could still be the jackshaft bearings . With little load on the jackshaft it may not be making any noise .

It might be your blower. When I took the cog belt off the SC, the noise was still there. Meaning that the SC was not causing it. I could have sworn the sound was coming from one of my idler pullies as well, but it turned out to be the jackshaft bearings.
