Default 100 Octane?

i am not FI (yet) but was curious being N/A if running 100 octane will make any difference in power. there is a gas station near me that has it at i think i saw $5 and change a gallon. i was thinking of filling her up and see if there is any difference. will this cause any harm to my car? is 100 octane pretty much for beasts only?

and sorry if this isnt in the proper forum. i just have no idea where elso to put it.

I dont think it will harm.. It will prob run rich/kill some mpg.. IMO..

E-85 is emerging as a great fuel for FI applications. You may want to check to see if it is offered in your area & if a tuner can set you up for it.

what fuel system conversions would need to take place to accept this more corrosive fuel, any ideas? new fuel lines? are the injectors compatible?

we have e-85 here, $3.50 a gallon and rated at 104octane!

See this thread.

According to my tuner RREV Motorsports, you don't need new fuel lines or injectors.
However, you do need a fuel system that is 30% more capable than what you're running on gasoline now. In other words, you'll need bigger injectors and a fuel return system...or a twin pump system if you're already high HP.
Besides that, a good tune will do. A good idea would be to have a "gasoline" map and a "E85" map with your UTEC or FCON.

i stand corrected i just passed the gas station again and it is 110 octane.

$8/gal for 100 octane here in Cali, cost over $100 every fill up.

so thats all you use is 100 octane? like i repostedit is actually 110 octane. so i guess its safe? you havent had any problems? are you F/I or N/A

06 all stock .. i use 103 octane for daily drive for a year now, no noticeable power gain, i use it for that extra protection coz its getting realy hot in summer .. and ohh full tank cost only 17$

Kuwait is world second largest oil producer (: fuel really cheap here (:
tho its reallllllllllllly hot in summer ):

I think you are not quite understanding how the octane is related to horsepower... No, just adding 110 octane fuel will NOT increase the power. If you want the significant horsepower increase, you must retune your ECU for that octane level. If it's for the NA vehicle, advancing the timing is the only way for you to increase the power. If you were F/I, then advancing timing and increasing the boost will yield a significant power gain.

To sum up, don't waste your money unless you plan to retune your ECU. 91~93 octane should be more than sufficient for your engine...

Yes, it will increase horsepower, but it won't be near as much as if you were to have a specific tune for it. 101 is good for probably 5whp over 91, 110 maybe 10whp if you just dumped it in. The main plus for higher octane is the safety against detonation because its burns cooler and cleaner. Better combustion will yield more power.

I would only run 100+ octane at the track, seems like a waste of $$ daily driving.....where is that gas station you were talking about?

FYI that 110 octane is leaded gas, plenty of people with FI run leaded gas (including me) but that is also something you want to think about before you put it in

Don't use too much leaded or it will mess with spark plugs over time. Also, people shouldn't run leaded with any sort of cats. It going to decrease their life.

hey mid its on ocean ave in malvern. just south of the southern state on the western side of ocean ave.

so would 100 octane just serve to make you run richer with F/I or would you notice a gain?
