Default Stillen question...

Flame on if this has already been answered, didn't really find it in my search.
So i have 49,000 on my Z. I've treated her really well since i got her. I'm thinking of going with a stillen supercharger. I know bang for the buck it's not the best. But it seems liek the most reliable, and safe FI i can find. I realize any FI will put more stress on all the whole drivetrain and engine, but i'm ready for more power!! lol
My questions are. Is my milage too high to safely do this on a stock engine. And will my stock clutch hold up. (it's only like 80 more hp) BTW i only have like 10,000mis on my clutch, since it got replaced when i got my new tranny. Thanks!!

I think you should be fine as you are. Always better to have a spare car available though...

with only 49K you should be fine, if you are that concerned get a leak down and compression test done. You aren't adding that much HP so you shouldn't really have any problems.

You will be fine, take it from me as i put the stillen on back in late 2003 and ran it for 27,000 miles without a problem.I have now gone with the greddy twins at 49,000 miles and am not worried at all,if you have any questions about the stillen just ask me cause i think i had it longer then anybody.

Looking at the cost if I were you I'd look at a Vortech or Procharger setup, if you look around you can find a used one here for around 3500 bucks, usually from someone who went turbo. I was going to go with a stillen but in the end went with a used jwt TT setup. The stillen has the COOL factor for looks but it does need a special hood or hole cut in the hood. The centrifugal blowers just look easier to work with in my opinion.

You do not have to look any further, I will be selling mine here is a couple of weeks. Since I am a honest guy I would tell you that the Stillen will only make you want more power. If you must have a SC get a vortech, it might be louder but it has much more power, I found that out side by side. I have a Stage IV and it does not seem to have the punch it use when I first got it. It is a great starter kits, like training wheels, to get the feel of FI. But if you want to do it right the first time save and pump the money into it.

I agree that 49k shouldn't be too much mileage, but I would still do a compression test to see the general health of your motor before you start modding it for more power.

The final decision is your, but here is something to think about in one year or two.

1. Stillen cannot increase power or upgrade computer
2. Stuck with Stillen Hood
3. No other mods will increase your HP
4. Cannot add headers o rplenum placer
5. After one year, you will look to upgrade
6. Total lost of install, price of hood, and SC
7. Will cost 20 grand to upgrade
8. Benefits now, will cost the same amount to install a APS stock, get more and have the ability to upgrade downthe line
9. Take the stocking fee lost now or pay for addtional upgrades later, or exchange for TT or ST or vortech
10. Most Stillen fans upgrade after 2 years of FI

true...you may not get the whp of APS TT etc with a Stillen. What you do get is a "package" that if installed correctly will be virtually maintenance free with exception to a belt now and again. Just read the other FI threads on "blown head gaskets", smoking exhaust and poor running supplied by bad installs or tunes.

If you know if a good tuner with a good rep..go for the HP. I enjoy my Stillen acceleration and the CF hood has grown on me. Gets plenty of looks!

Just my opinion.

I have about 80k on my car with the stillen kit and love it. Makes the Z a great daily driver and I never get tired of it. Virtually maintenance free. Sure its not the fastest kit by far but definitely the most fun. Plus the whine sounds sick!

So i was thinking of getting the AAM oil pan spacer so i can add a quart of oil for sake of longevity, and maybe keeping the oil a lil cooler. Good idea/necessary now that i'll be FI?

More oil capacity is always a good idea.
