well i tried a post over in the engines forum. but got virtually no replies. someone said i should try here.
ive been searching through threads like crazy. and there is lots of info about installs of built engines. but not much on wether those people ended up with a good running engine.
it seems like there is a horror story about every engine builder here. which is just frustrating while trying to choose a builder.
right now im leaning towards builtzmotors. im still waiting for GTM to get back to me on a price for a fully built long block. but by the sounds of what ive read. they have quite a workload. so not sure what kind of turnaround time i would be dealing with.
is there anyone here who is running a TT set up on a fully built block, that has lasted over 15000mi?? and if so, where did you have it built?? and if you have a list of builders to steer clear of, i would love to hear a PM about it. i wouldnt want to start any animosity in a thread. or have this turn into a mud slinging contest.
thanks for any insight you guys can offer.

SGP built mine . You said something about [BuiltZMotors] They should be good also . There is Performance Factory.....Forged Performance....GRD , and a hhost of others . I would call at least three with a detailed list of what you want out of the motor . Your chances are pretty good you will get a good motor from any of them . So I would shop around
3500 naturally aspirated miles on BuiltZMotor, I'll update you in a year when I rack up miles on a turbo kit
But as for the motor running w/out boost, it's smoother at idle than the stock motor...

thanks for the replies everyone. after the ridiculous amount of reading ive done. it seems that GTM is the one ive heard the least bad news about. i have heard they are very pricey. but after the PM i got from them. it seems they are right on par with what the other builders are charging. plus i can get my turbo kit through them at the same time :-) so thats where im leaning at the moment.

i normaly suggest you get the parts all in 1 shop and have that 1 shop do the work..but if you are considering a "crate" motor... u can check this out too

well 1000$ is still cheaper than the fuel i would burn to drive the car back and forth.
and even though there probably is a bunch of good shops between chicago and new york. those places would take me longer to drive to than cali would. i know you guys arent to good with the canadian geography down there. but alberta is practically the west coast.
and not to mention, even if i drove the car to cali to have the work done. i would still need to pay for a new tune once i got back anyway. im at 2500ft elevation, and cali is practically sea level i imagine.
ive ran through all the scenarios, and the easiest and most cost effective thing to do, is just have everything shipped here. but thanks for the suggestions.
Like I said in the other thread . Thought you were further east . Shop around for the best price on the built motor your looking for . I bet you'll find some good money to be saved if a little home work is done . Good Luck !
