my goals are in the mid 600whp range on meth with a greddy tt. i just wanted to know if utec can handle that much power.

Wow...that's pretty awesome. From my reading, i thought the UTEC was only good to about 500whp.

In a more technical term the UTEC is able to adjust fuel and timing via an external 3 bar map sensor which is 1 bar atmospheric and an additional 2 bar gauge pressure. so basically you have 0-30 psi of tunability with the map sensor they provide. Anything beyond that is uncontrollable

Also remember depending on how you are setting up your load sites, 2-30 psi would be a pretty poor resolution. considering you only have 10 rows to adjust for the 28 psi difference.

Which brings up the question of sloppy idle when running these kinds of numbers on UTEC?

utilizing C16, i am running 620whp (DJ numbers) with the UTEC and i have no qualms doing so... if i were to try and ascertain these numbers on pump gas, (sans meth or other additive) then yes, i would switch to the FCON or MoTec...

cube - as far as idle goes, i have no difference between my 93 octane pump gas (500+whp DJ) and c16 maps... they both idle like OEM...

Unless, you have some crazy custom ST or TT, you won't be venturing into the 20+ psi territory. 18-20psi is about the highest any of the popular kits will take you to. after that, the turbos are out of their efficiency ranges.

550cc... base fuel pressure is 58psi to allow for their smaller size... even at the 620whp level they are only running at about 85% duty cycle... i figured with the CJM stage 2 system and fuel rails, i wouldn't have any issue with them handling the higher pressure... and so far, so good... at WOT and 18psi, the max pressure is about 78psi on the fuel...

the idle should not be an issue with the utec at any boost level. The utec will allow the the stock ecu to control idle and vacuum conditions - though will be scaled for injectors.

The utec, will handle the high boost applications. the problem is the limited resolution. You will have limited load points which can result in what I will call a "choppy" tune at higher boost levels. If your goal is more than 10 -12 psi, I would look into an ems with higher resolution

Running utec at 19psi and over 600 to the wheels. Seems to be doing a good job to me.

running a utec at 18psi. car idles almost like stock( i got cams and bumped up the idle using the cypher) and puts down a hair over 600whp on 93 octane. i've heard the fcon does a better job, but my car drives great plus i have the selectable map option for when i decide to do some c-16 tuning.

I'll be honest with you, can the UTEC handle 600whp and the boost required for it? Yes WOT, but part throttle will suffer. When I left Forged my part throttle was nearly perfect, it had 2 spots where the car had hiccups at certain rpm/throttle input, to me it was no biggie for having all the power.

Over time and after weather/temp changes the tune got worse, its straight up annoying now, but Ive learned to drive around it. One day I realized how silly it was I drive around issues having spent so much on the car, why skimp here? I love the UTEC for the $$$ its good, but IMO for 12psi+ AND good daily driveabilty and smooth throttle tip in, you will need something with more resolution-ie. Haltech, FCON, etc. Good luck!

it would be nice if TXS would evr bring out their big software update; it'll give us better resolution......if they ever bring it too us!

i agree 100%... luckily, my tune hasn't seen much change even though the weather has... but, i'm moving on to the FCON in the next week or so to get the better driveability... sharif has convinced me that the smoothness is worth the price differential...

im surpirsed everyone isnt going haltech now. Besides Fcon that seems to be a alternate solution. Nice info in this thread.

Sharif is quite the salesman lol. I have noticed that the UTEC is very noticeable in the transition point when it takes over, sometimes even giving a jolt as it transitions. It handles my stockblock numbers fine though. i just think if you are willing to spend the money on built motor, might as well upgrade the ecu too.
