Clutch for FI/track/High WHP/ and DD
I have tried RPS, which I loved at 420whp, and ATS (Carbonetics) Triple Disc now at 560+whp. I can't stand the ATS. I track my car 4-5 times per year and it is currently my daily driver. The triple just really seems to be too much. I do not do ANY 1/4 mile runs.
I would appreciate it if some of you higher WHP guys would simply state what you have and how you feel about it. I am going to replace my clutch and I want something that will hold but has a more friendly feel. I would really like to hear from some of the track guys.
Thanks for the responses.

I've had the JWT Organic combo, Carbonetics Triple, and currently running the Exedy/GTM dual carbon...
I love the JWT, obviously because it was just like stock with a slightly heavier pedal feel. Carbonetics....sucked with daily driving, especially in any sort of traffic we experience here in big west coast cities such as LA. But the plus side is that it never slips. EVER. Even when it's cold. Now I run the Exedy/GTM...it's slightly more pricey, but it works like stock, but with a slightly heavier pedal feel than the JWT. Sometimes I couldn't believe that it's a carbon clutch. But the downside...you have to heat it up a bit when you want it to hold anything over 600rwhp.
For the track: the clutch is always hot...so you don't have to worry about slippage.
For FI: It holds all the way with my high boost setup at 713lb/ft of torque.
Daily Driving: It slips and engages much like stock...just of course with a smaller friction point (not as small as the Carbonetics ON/OFF switch feel), as well as a heavier pedal feel.
Downside: When you're cruising on the highway not using the clutch, and it's cold...and when a Ferrari pulls up next to you...you have to warm up the clutch for a few seconds before you could hammer it down. But once it's warm, it holds pretty much whatever you throw at it.
Bottom line: To be at this power level, there are always trade offs. Nothing is perfect. The Exedy/GTM Dual Cabon is as close as it comes imo... but it has to suit YOUR driving style.
Just my 2 cents. Hope it gives you an idea.

Nitrouz, great info, thank you. I was looking at the Exedy. Which one do you have (item # or something to identify) and what is meant by the EXEDY/GTM? The clutch and flywheel are one are they not? Which part is made by GTM?
Thanks!!!!
Thanks!!!!

Never ran the 1/4. Do not know 0-60 either but it's freakin fast I can tell you that.
Thanks for the review Alex, I am glad you are happy with our clutch setup.
Jokestrap, I strongly believe that this is one of the best clutches out there for high horsepower FI applications. As Alex mentioned there are always trade offs when dealing with a high performance clutch (especially one that can handle 800 ft. lbs. of torque) but our GTM/Exedy Dual Carbon clutch is going to be the best compromise by far.

Good luck!

Please send me pricing and ordering information.
Thank you!!!
I use the GTM exedy twin carbon. Very happy with it, on and off the track. My G35 is my daily driver as well as track beast. See my review here
As a note, my JWT TT G35 runs 363 rwhp and 347 rwt.

Did you think about moving down to only 2 discs on the ATS? Id imagine it would help some, I could be wrong-this would only cost you labor. I love my ATS triple, it took 3000 miles to grow on me but the clutch is a beast! I dont even warm it up at the drag strip...

I had asked a lot of people and shops about clutches before I made my decision on the ATS setup I have now - I have about 12K miles on it now. Since, I spoke with a few people that had driven my car and had experienced the gtm spec exedy and EVERY person said the my clutch (the ATS twin) was the better of the two. That said, they all said the gtm exedy was very quiet with almost no chatter. In the end, those that I spoke with commented that the JDM spec (maybe called the "D" spec) twin disc Exedy is "the" clutch to get <- basically the nonGTM spec twin exedy.
There are other clutches on the market as well to consider. I believe cusco makes a twin disc; which I would guess is a rebranded clutch of somesort, and there was a sponser on this forum promoting another clutch for high HP, but I cannot remember the name

I did not know that this was an option. I'll have to look into it.
Thanks,

I have had people from other car clubs drive my car and all were very impressed with it. From all the research I did, I was informed the ATS triple would be more streetable than the twin??? but who knows.

Sounds like you are telling me that the Exedy and Carbonetics are the same clutch. Is that what you are saying?

The Exedy is a lot easier to drive with that both of those.

I am not one of the "higher horsepower guys" but i am running the clutchmasters ceramic 6 puck sprung hub clutch. I absolutely love the feeling of it combined with the SS clutch line. I actually think this clutch is easier to drive than my stock clutch (car only has 10,000 miles). This is also my first standard transmission car so i am still learning how to drive it.
