Default new project...supercharge me!!

ok, i am starting a new project for my new Z. with my previous cars i have only dealt with turbocharged upgrads, but for this project i am going to go with the supercharger option. To start i own a 2005 Anniv. Z. So, i plan to install the stage 3 stillen kit on it, which says it gets 410hp...now is that to the wheel? or to the engine?...secondly. my plans are to hit 450 hp doing this, so i need to know what else i can do to achieve that. i have plans on upgrading the pulley. but where to start?

i have roughly 20k for this project, and i plan on posting a pic by pic review of the install once i start. any ideas on how i can hit 450 hp TO THE WHEEL with this option...thanks

hey whats up. from what you posted the stillen is not right for your goals. the stillen simply will not make the power your looking for and you'll have to rock an ugly hood to use it. my advise and many others here will say the same is to go greddy tt, or apstt. for 2 reasons superchargers dont make as much tq as turbos and you'll have to run 11psi to hit your goal. also with the budget your working with the tt's are a great fit and very upgradable down the line. i wouldnt supercharge just for the sake of doing it. in these cars time and time again tt's are where its at. there are good single kits out there as well but your goal of 450whp screams tt. best of luck

the problem witha TT IS my budget though. i am not looking to waste my money by blowing my motor because of a TT kit. and i WOULD upgrade the motor to support a TT however that will run me over 20k. i would love to put the APS extreme kit in my vehichle dont get me wrong, but with my budget ijust dont see that happening while still maintaining my engine. what do you think?

Go with the Vortech kit. I'm not sure if they still offer the Tuner kit or not, if they still do, it's a good option. You can get the Tuner kit, then add fuel pump, injectors, and ems of your choice.

Instead your gonna waste your money on a sub par supercharger kit that will leave you wanting more and having no way of achieving it.

You can run a Stage 4 Stillen with Exhaust and Cams and probably get 350RWHP and not have to build the motor...

The stillen kit that states 410hp is not wheel hp. The most wheel hp a stillen will give you is around 345whp and thats with stage 4. If you are looking for 450whp, then i would suggest either a TT or single turbo kit. You could achieve 450whp with a vortech or procharger, but you will need a few additional accessories and have to run around 10-11psi. If i was you with those goals in mind and that kind of money in hand, i would look into an APS single turbo setup, with some aftermarket cams and some additional engine mods to help beef up your engine. But stillen is def. not the correct way to go with your goals in mind. Good luck with your project.

stock block, I would say go with Vortech. If you are building your engine, Greddy twins all the way.

I don't think you'll get 450 whp with the Vortech unless you run the 2.87 pulley. At that point you are pushing 10+ psi and I don't know how long your stock block will last. If you are happy with ~350 whp, get the Vortech tuner with UTEC.

8.5k should get you a greddy tt installed and tuned..
6.5k more should get you a built shortblock swapped. shortblocks thatll hold 600whp go for around 3500 bucks.

You get out the door with greddy tt/built sb for under 15k. Use the other 5k for clutch/flywheel/exhaust/boost controller/gauges ect

stillen will leave you wanting more. also, know the difference between a sc power curve and a tt power curve. Dont necessarily concentrate on the peak output, but look more into the area under the curve.

As some have already said the goals you are stating would be more easily met with a turbocharger system. Now I am not going to preach to you about which system to get, however I CAN tell you that I recently had the JWT TT system installed on my '05. I am running 420whp on a stock block with a conservative boost of 6-7 psi. For the budget you have you could do the following:

(1) TT system @ $12G (includes full TT system, Greddy TT exhaust, clutch/flywheel)
(2) built block @ $8g

With this combination you will be able to run +550whp AND have an engine that is bulletproof and ultra reliable. IMHO that is the way to go.

Trust me on this ...........do not go the stillen route at all.Back in mid 2003 i had 3 choices, the ati which blew everything up(cause of no timing control),the greddy twins(same problem)and the stillen.Well i went with the stillen cause of the other,s problem,s,well in today,s market there are a bunch of different alternative,s.I now have the greddy twins and i can tell you that even at stage4 the twins will kill it......even at a measly 6psi.With the $ goals that you have you can easily go with a twin setup with a built short block and go well above what power you want to make. The stillen will never get you even close.

^^^Exactly! With the Stillen SC, you won't get anywhere close to 450whp. It's possible with a Vortech but you can attain that power and more a lot easier with twins. BTW, at 450whp you are definitely going to want to build your block. The stock internals are good up to about 400whp, maybe a little bit more. Beyond that and you are really pushing it. If 450whp is your goal, you should really build your block.

ok well im going to go with the TT then. i was really liking the APS extreme kit, but it seems like i won't be able to afford that. i just got to worry about upgrading my block now...i might do a full swap...im not sure...all the labor is FREE because im going to do it all with my dad who is a mechanic and his friend. will this cut back my costs at all??

Have you looked in the marketplace? If not, I would highly recommend you do.

-MRC have FI turn key packages fs.
-Forged performance have FI turnkey packages as well as built blocks fs.
-Performance Factory have built blocks fs.
^The only 3 places I would consider taking my z.

Good luck!
