How's this a dumb question? There a numerous twin charged cars out there, he just wants to know if anyone's done it.

HKS used to make a "twin charger" setup for the 1st gen supercharged MR2s. the hks kit added a turbo to the already supercharged engine.

Turbocharged 4A-GZE. (Twin charged, HKS)

Using turbo as well as a supercharger, it is the most complex form of 4A-G, it is really expensive and resource hogging to setup, however, once correctly built, it gives the engine massive torque curves and allows you to use very large turbine to really trash the chassis. An impressive piping layouts allow even the owner to get confused which way the air travels... A common horsepower figures in the 350+ with unequalled torque characteristics.

Recent batch of new generation turbochargers are replacing these complex setups as boost lag become less apparent and higher peak boost becomes more stable and immediate. Quickly the twin-charger setup is becoming "low-tech" despite of it's complexities.

Yes. But you’ll have to wait until you get your GED.

It's definitely been done before. This 350Z Ogura Racing Clutch Twin-Charged is also fitted with four Nitrous Express nitrous oxide tanks. Triplecharged

I was under the impression, with a twin-charged system, you need some type of intake system that would allow the supercharger to be bypassed after a certain rpm, much like the new GTI that came out (or something made by VW).

Here's a short explanation.

In essence the system is very simple. The V6 engine spins the Blitz turbocharger through the specially built exhaust manifolds, which in turn feeds the intercooler. Then a large diameter pipe directly connects the intercooler to the supercharger intake via a mechanical throttle body. At low rpm, when the turbocharger can't muscle up enough positive boost pressure, the supercharger compresses the intake charge. Once the turbo spools up, the supercharger is cut off via the pulley that drives it directly from the crank.

The only issue is, how hard would a clutch system for the Stillen's pulley be to fabricate? Tuning shouldn't be TOO hard since you're basically tuning for boost starting @ like 6-8 lbs and then working up to a hefty 14-18 lbs with the turbo spooled. In theory, and the reason it's done, makes perfect sense to alleviate lag from a larger turbo by giving you SOME positive boost down low.

Biggest problem is, few are baller enough for this kind of setup (I agree w/ the built motor guy and the 30k ball-park, based on shopping around #'s)

Oh btw, is the clutch necessary for the Stillen's sake? I understand why it's probably needed... cuz the pulley's gonna try to spin the screws at a certain speed but the overboost it's seeing from the spooled turbo would want to push it like a fan, faster than the crank pulley would want it to...? Is this right? I'm only guessing...

what are trying to do? give a VQ35 the same powerband as a Powerstroke Diesel? all low and mid range with nothing up top.

I think one could try to adopt the VW TSI electromagnetic clutch (this engine is also twin-charged) or the AC compressor clutch, to switch of sc?

Is it worth the money? I would probably stroke the engine to 4.2 to get similar low-range torque.
