OFFICIAL Vortech Statement (look in here)
hey guys, this was emailed to me today from Vortech. i would like to share...
November 29, 2007
Dear Jeremy,
Earlier this year, the bearing manufacturer that Vortech uses made a product change (without notice to Vortech) that led to bearing failures in some supercharger applications. The problem with the substituted bearing was that the cage separating the ***** would sometimes fail when used aggressively. Once this was discovered, Vortech’s use of this part was immediately stopped and inventory was purged. The suspect bearings were primarily used in some of the superchargers produced in May, June, and July of 2007. Not all units produced in this range will be negatively affected and will perform properly. Customers can be assured that all current production units have the correct bearings and are defect free.
Even though the bearing manufacturer has chosen not to participate, Vortech will extend the warranty on the affected units to five years with no mileage cap. If the customer is experiencing issues with the unit call Vortech service to confirm. Only the V1, V2 type street superchargers are affected.
It should be noted that the standard street supercharger, even with proper bearings, must not exceed the speed range that it was designed to operate in. Modified engines and/or “re-pullied” applications may require a racing-spec supercharger and a properly sized and functioning compressor bypass valve. Please call Vortech service if you have questions, at (805) 247-0226. Thank you, Vortech Engineering LLC.

There you go. Bad bearings. Well, I'm glad they finally admitted it. This should put a lot of future Vortech owner's minds at ease. Thanks for that Jeremy!
And an extended 5 year warranty sounds good to me!! Thanks Vortech.

it's good that vortech acknowledges a problem on their part, but i hope their warranty isn't one that is filled with stipulations that renders it useless to those who are really affected by the bad bearings.
yeah, i am sure Vortech doesnt like replacing any parts that malfunction just as bad as well all hate to send them in for it. glad to see they figured out the problem so we can get some more superchargers out on the street...

Vortech and its bearings problems reminds me of Microsoft and its xbox360 "ring of death issues'. Both are extending their warranties-which is good, but failures will likely continue to happen (but who knows)--As long as they will fix/replace the defective units, then I guess it's ok for most potential purchasers.
I myself will not be buying a vortech sc anytime soon.

sounds like this is really isn't vortech's fault since the bearing company started making their bearings differently. But going from 3 to 5 years with the warrenty is a pretty solid improvement for those defective kits
i think they are handling the situation perfectly. it took then a bit to narrow down the problem, the figured out the problem and now are doing everything possible to fix it. much props to Vortech right now for doing the best that they can and extending the warranty.
thanks guys, let me know if anyone needs any help with anything...
