Default question about turbo kits

I am a turbo newbie for sure so please help.

Ok, Greddy is supposed to be putting down 340rwhp.

I know that to get more out of the engine i will need to change pistons/rods/cams etc..

But how is the turbo kit limited to that power. I mean, how do you increase the power after changing out the internals? I.E. how do you up the boost?

Maybe I am asking an obvious question, but hell i dont know.

How limited would i be if i went with the Greddy kit versus a custom built turbo setup? Could the Greddy kit infact be bulked up to perform like a custom setup?

Please help my ignorance!

The turbo kit is not limited to that power. The only thing that keeps it making that much is the low amount of boost they are running. It may be possible to run as much as 10 psi on a stock bottom end which would put you around 400 rwhp. You can increase boost pressure with a boost controller or ecu upgrade. That kit uses 2 18g's right? Or did thye use smaller turbos? Umm if its two 18 g's they could probably pull 25-30 psi and still be in their efficient range which should net somewhere around 650 rwhp. You will need more than a strengthened bottom end to handle high boost though. You will need to upgrade fuel system, tranny, clutch, rear end, tires, spark, exhaust, basically the whole da%mn car to hold big boost. So keep that in mind if you want to make your z into a beast.

Wow! I can't believe that 400hp is the upper limit for the stock motor. Maybe it's time to buy a Supra!
