Default Built Motors: What Oil/Filter are you using???

I know this seems like a newbie question, I'm just curious to hear from all the built guys, what oil, weight and filter you guys are using?

Come on you guys are bored anyways, just post up your setup I'm sure this will be very helpful.

Right now I'm just on dino oil with the mobil 1 108 oil filter, since this is a freshly built motor but eventually plan on switching to full syn.

Thanks.

I would recommend the following:

Dino oil until the engine reaches appox 3,000 miles
Then switching to Mobil 1 0-40 synthetic oil
Change your oil every 2000-5000 miles depending on your driving charterstics.

Oil filters I would recommend these:

Power Enterprise Filter
Mobil 1 Filter
K&N Filter
Denso Filter
OEM Filter
AMSoil filter

I will personally be running either a PE or KN filter depending on availability.

Hope this helps,

10w40 conventional, any brand. Fram race filter HP1 (no bypass) holds a full quart.

Great Info guys!

I was planning on trying motul 300v 10w-40 or 15w-50 after I get another good 7k on the car. I can't decide which one I should use. I live in FL so most of the time it's warm/hot...

I use Canton oil filters...reasons are that you can get a small or longer
one and it filters at 8 micron which will catch anything and a billet housing.
It features a synthetic filter unaffected by moisture and the cartrige is
replaceable. You can easily pull the ends off the cartrige/filter
for inspection of any metals. No bypass and the long one flows
45 gallons of 180 degree oil per minute and the short one flows 15 gallons.
I have used them for 15 years in all kinds of motors with great results.
Maybe a little over the top for a N/A but I consider it a must for FI as
we have to many $$$ in these motors.

I am currently running Pennsoil 15-50 Platinum as it has one of the
highest ratings for viscosity at 100C. My built engine has extra
clearances like most and it holds up well when hot.

Sorry for the long post!

Chris,

I was running the Motul 5W40 300V; it doesn't show great results in Used Oil Analyses. Most people seems to get higher than normal values for Iron, Aluminum, and LEad when using any of the Motul 300V oils. (all from wear) Those oils are not designed for extended street use. They are designed for short-term, track use. Ester Synthetics (300V) tend to absord moistures more than other oils. I am not trying to say that the 300v is aweful; I'm just saying that it is not all that it's cracked up to being.

I am running Rotella T-Synthetic 5W40 now. Alot of guys are running "turbo diesel" oils now. I'll tell you how the oil tests out when I get the Used Oil results back from Blackstone.
