A few of you had asked how the VQ35HR rods compare to the previous generation VQ35.
Our Nissan contact was nice enough to donate a completely destroyed VQ35HR long block for us to inspect. They replaced it at 1000 miles under warranty, and it had holes in the side of the block. They had no idea what would cause the engine to fail after only 1000 miles. Upon teardown and inspection, it was obvious this engine hydrolocked.
Anyways, here is a pic of the VQ35HR rod, vs. a standard VQ35 rod. They look significantly wider, which would lend itself to more stock bock power on the VQ35HR engines.
Just though I would share.

I thought I read somewhere that RevUp rods were slightly stronger than non-RevUp, is there any truth in this? Thanks.

No the rev-up rods are the same as in the above pic.
The HR rods kinda look like the Eagle H rods????maybe not? Looks like the HR stock motors might be nice, safe, and happy with 450+ Hp???
Def some good news for the Hr Guys!

Sharif,
Thanks for posting up these pics! I love seeing how the new stuff differs from the older VQs.
My first thought at looking at these long HR rods is that you could offset grind the crank, giving it a slightly longer stroke. then use VQ35DE spec rods and pistons for an easy stroker package.

the HR block is taller than the DE block, and hence nissan is using a longer rod than in the DE. With the longer rod, Nissan needed to make the rod a bit beefier.....they couldn't just lengthen it.
What are most nissan rods? cast? powdered metal?

And with "monster cams", the turbos will spool quicker too!
