Default Utec vs. Haltech tune in Colorado.

Toby @ TC Performance, nice work he grasp the Haltech software extreamly quickly.!! He said that the sytem worked VERY well. TAKE THE #s FOR WHAT THERE WORTH....ONLY #S The past dyno was Dynojet @ 20psi. Utec cf SAE 740.15 hp 637 tq.
Today's (diffrent dyno) Dynapack @ 23psi. Haltech cf SAE 739 hp 659.3 tq! Toby maxed out the turbo's efficiencie at about 24psi.
I wasn't looking for hp gains through this, I wanted a much more driver friendly high horsepower car. In the past with the Utec, the partial throttle, on off throttle is sooo rough. Shifts from 1st to second at the 1/4 track are so "choppy", it almost felt like a fuel cut between shifts! If I was to go full throtle then pull back to 50% the car would lurch as I was punching the throtle 0-100%, 0-100%, 0-100%! This got worse and worse as the hp levels have gone up on the car. This must be the transition between the stock ecu and the Utec going back and forth.
Wow, the driveability with the new Haltech tune now is well, the smoothest i'll ever felt through this car, all through the throttle range 0 to 100%, no jurks, jumps, or surges!
Partial from 100% smooth. I can boost to 22psi. dumps screaming hell, roll back to 1/4 throtle, tires stop spining smoke, but no abrupt transfer!!!
I'm very happy for what the Haltech has done for me. Cant wait to get to the 1/4 mile track!!
Thanks for the support from Hal @ Injected Performance!!
Kevin

I think he got more of both. I think a Dynapack reads lower than a DynoJet.

Not only does the Haltech work, but the GUI is so well done, allowing the user to quickly harness the flexibility and power of the unit. No glitches, no bugs, no crashes for a new software product is quite impressive also. To the OP: did your tuner apply cam phasing as well? I'm actually kind of surprised there was no power bump from the UTEC if cam phasing was also applied (and if you have aftermarket cams). And just curious if this was on race fuel or you have a meth injection set up?

Kevin - thanks for the positive review, they are always nice to hear and may help others who are on the fence or waiting for feedback. Like any software, there is a small learning curve, but after that the user interface is my personal favorite, and I am not just saying that. I am so spoiled by the new Platinum software that I dread tuning other standalones, even my other personal cars. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions.

Im glad you are happy with the tune Kevin. I was going to call you today and get your opinion on the driveability but it looks like I have my answer. To Hal - the user software is very easy to navigate and make changes. Compared to the old Haltech software (which Im used to) this is so much better. I did have some issues with the datalogging but in time I think I can figure it out and make it work for me. Overall, Haltech gets a 9.5 from me.
