TN kit owners wanted.
How has your kits been doing since the upgraded turbos with water cooling. Also how many of you have over boosting and rich/lean running issues using the remapped ECU?
Please list your other mods outside of the TN kit.
I'm looking at doing either a Greedy TT kit or a TN kit.
I want to make around 370-400WHP This car is not going to see a track and will only be used once every few weeks as a weekend car. I have no desire to use DRs I plan on keeping normal street tires on the car.
Is there any point in going over 400WHP with normal street tires? I'm guessing its useless power unless you're doing 100+mph runs where you can get traction.
My goal is to leave the motor stock and the only mods outside of the turbo kit would be
Starting point 2003 350Z base
JIC Y pipe (already have)
Invidia exhaust (already have)
Oil pan spacer
A/C line mod for cooling if using the TN kit
Boost gauge
Wide band o2 gauge
LSD from stock 350z
and maybe open dump tube
(other parts if using the greedy)
haven't dug into those yet.....
Do understand, I know what the boost bug is like. I started out with my civic around 8 years ago, I wanted nothing more than a simple bolt on Fmax turbo kit. boy was I wrong! almost $15K later.... from sleeving the motor, doing head work, to having a fully hand built custom exhaust 3" from the turbo back with no bends other then cut/weld/cut/weld/cut/weld, I loved it!!!!!
Then I bought a Supersport bike shortly after I sold the car I always said I'd never sell. Hard to believe a stock bike would still eat a high powered street car.
with that being said, I do believe I will be happy with rather low (370-400WHP) in this car, since it really is just a play toy for the weekends, if I ever want to go fast I can jump on my 375lb bike that has almost 200HP under the tank.
IMO bikes will always be better then cars. but who says you can't have both? =)
I wish the TN kit wasn't so (he said she said,) There's so many great things said about it, then there's so many bad things said about it. Am I right or wrong when it seems like most people who have issues with the kit have either early versions of the kit or have mods from pulleys, plemem (sp) MBC/EBC, other forms of tuning outside of the normal reflash.
I wonder how many people with properly installed turbo kits running near stock setups have had good luck with it.
I also wonder how many kits TN has sold VS the next turbo kit out there.
5 to 1? 3 to 1? maybe less?
Thanks for any help, I really don't want to see a big debate about what turbo system is better, clearly greedy is hands down better if you plan on modding the car in the long run, but that's not the goal here, I'm looking for the best option for a 370-400WHP system.
Please save yourself the cheap post count by posting "TT all the way!" don't reply unless you have something worthwhile to add to this thread I really don't want a stupid debate about how one is better then the other like a honda VS toyota or mustang VS camaro type thread.
Thanks for keeping this mature or at least trying to. too many TN threads have turned to chit.

Don't me wrong, I loved my turbonetics kit when it ran. The kit is reasonably priced, easy to install and looks good. Minor hickups here and there but all of them seemed to be smoothed out for now ie: oil to water cooled turbo, fixing overboost issue, and fixing the AC line issue. I owned the kit for around 2 years and had minimal to no problems until I got it tuned but thats neither here nor there and I will leave that alone since the past is the past. Would I go back to the turbonetics kit? Probably not because of all the new ST kits being introduced such as https://my350z.com/forum/questionable-posts/329465-powerlab-gt35r-single-turbo-kit-release.html <<< looks very promising for my future setup.
Honestly jeffie it is all up to you, find an awesome tuner and learn all you can as far as an issues you will have before or after install and you should be ok. Considering it will not be your daily driver you will be happy when you do get to drive it. TT sounds better but its not necessarily for those looking to have some extra power for a reasonable amount of money. Goodluck with your decision and I can't wait to see what you decide to go with.

i think you really need to pay attention to your engine management more than anything else. the power goals you have wont be acomplished on the stock turbonetics boost levels. your looking at a good 8psi to get there. so your gonna need to look into a boost controller and an engine management. you also should look into a fuel return and fuel pump just for saftey. be ready to drop about 10 grand. as far as 400whp on the road the car puts it down fine on my crappy federals. so traction isnt too much of an issue at 400. anyhow best of luck with your build.
370 whp is common on the stock Turbonetics kit with no modification. The stock TN kit runs 8-8.5 psi normally. No fuel return and no boost controller needed.
I would get the Powerlab kit before I got a TN kit.

+1^!!
I would get a Powerlab Kit over a Turbonetics Kit if you ask me!! Better Kit, Better Product, and if in the future you feel you want to push your Z further (Cause once you have boost, you want more.... it's like crack!!!

I do love my TN kit and have owned it for about 11 months and 8K miles. No problems as of yet. You can view the list of mods in my sig.
The Power Lab is looking real great about now. Plus it's different as of right now, being new and all. Plus they have proven that the kit can go the distance on a built motor. But I love the Greddy too. So it's tit for tat.
I jumped on my TN kit due to the fact I got it for such a great deal (got lucky). Then after seeing what GT Motorsports did with the TN on a built motor, it makes me want to attempt that same feet. I'm not so much on the highest HP game. But would like some good power. I really want to get into a lot of road course racing.

The powerlabs has crossed my mind, its just one of those things, I know how boost is one of those you always want more things, but how many of you guys who have that "I want more boost feeling" get to jump straight on a new liter bike? On top of that, I think 90% of the time spent both on my bike and in my Z is on backroads. I'm not a highway racer and I do think having a lot of power in my Z (in my case) would only be a my ***** is bigger then yours bragging right.
The main thing I really like about the TN kit is I can install it myself, and while most people say have it tuned.... you cannot tune the kit, it's a reflash, take it to a dyno to get a baseline HP run and check A/F
Somewhat easy install, cheap turbo kit, and something I can do pretty easily by myself. Although no matter what kit I buy I'm installing it myself.
Again my car rarely goes out, it's nothing more then a toy, in fact I have my new tag stickers sitting on my computer case, my cars tags expired sometime early last month, I've yet to take it out since getting the new stickers =)
oops
I'll send the Power labs guy an e-mail and see what kind of pricing I can do shipped.
I'm open for options.
I still need to install my new body, get the car painted, maybe do vinyl, find a rear end, and maybe get around to driving it. =)
lots of things to buy and do before touching into the turbo world.

I have had a TN kit for about two years now and recently upgraded to the water-cooled version. Even using the initial version, the kit pleased me in regards to the performance but there was some overboosting and detonation due to the lack of an EMS. A good EMS is critical, for any FI set-up to be both safe and successful. I went with a Greddy EU and have been very pleased with it.
I am making 372 rwhp and around the same amount of torque on Cali 91 octane. The car is very easy to drive and can be driven daily since you need to push the car with a little intent to get any serious boost. I am confident that with a good install and tune, your car could be daily driven if you so please.
Currently, all problems have been fixed and there was only 2 of them: Overboosting to about 10.5 psi in cold weather and the detonation. I now boost to a max of 9 in cold weather but ~8 during sunny days of around 70 degrees or more. Strangely, after changing to a 3" single exhaust to a turboXS exhaust canister, I am actually boosting lower when logic would've dictated otherwise so that was another plus. I also purchased a set of used APS 440 cc injectors as the 380's weren't cutting it. Voila and hope this helps.

You need to search thoroughly in the archives here. It seems like you have done little research.

stock liter bike or a 700WHP Z I'd pick the bike with out thinking twice.

from what I've seen, it seems people who run very lightly modded Zs with TN kits seem happy.
In the end of it theres a lot of random people bashing TN because the greedy is better.
well no chit.
apples and oranges.
I'm guessing this thread will also turn into one of the many other waste of threads about the TN kit that is making this choice so hard for me.

I go to my garage on the weekends, I look at my car, then I look at my bike, I walk back to my house, put on my riding gear and ride off on the bike. happens 9 times out of 10.
im happy w/ my turbonetics in my G sedan.... got 5k miles on it and 9 months later it still runs great. i got the upgraded a/c lines and no issues. no reflashed ecu-- just got some stuff by VinnyTen upgraded. mine isn't a complete kit out of the box b/c i couldnt use the FMU from turbonetics into my system. but overall im happy. i never posted up real dyno sheets or get them upgraded but will go in the next few weeks w/ new mapping so i can run 9psi... right now im only pushing 6psi and happy w/ it
