Default Heads topic with Forced Induction

Ok Guys im wonder a few things on My head work for my motor build. This will be for a single turbo set up with about 18psi.
Ok first off from what I hear the vq35 head flows well but It does show to fall off on top on a dyno. Im going to have my shop port the intake side along with the intake manifolds. ON the exhast side im goiing to have it ported and polished to keep carbon down.

Ok oN camshafts from what I see is the bc cams seem to work well. Any other out there do you recomend?

Ok Im going to also do upgradded vavle springs for a 7500-7800 rpm redline.

Ok Im also wondering if I should do Upgradded BC 1mm lager stainless steel valves . WIll it help make more power? Does anyone have any input on these items and the vavles.

You are on the right track - what power level are you shooting for, and what single turbo are you going to use?

Yeah.... what are your power goals? If your doing headwork I would never use stock cams.

most of the graphs fall off because of the small turbine housings and log-style turbo manifolds on most of the twin kits. They are just too restrictive for high rpm use.
conversely, they are great for the street as those kits have quick spoolup and lots of torque.

Ok! you dont need head work (except cams) to make power to beyond 7K.

Ok! Just a turbo with some @ss and a tuner thats has some ***** and knows what he's doing.

Ok! you'll need some head work for 1000hp

Ok! BC cams FTW

Ok! Good Luck!

ahh guys thanks for the input and the funnys! Im going for about 600whp. Although I hope this dont change your input but this is for a maxima 3.5 engine. I came on the z board because most of you guys know a lot about the 3.5 engine and are doing far more advaced things than most of the maxima guys on are board.
The turbo is a hx40 from a dodge. I made about 340 whp on a 3.0 maxima engine a while back at about 11psi with the hx35 but those turbos dont wake up till about 15-16 psi. I may run up too 22psi. Just where ever the happy meidum is . Their are a lot of Dsm and 240(sr20det) guys making 500whp on a 4 cylinders so I know it can be done on the 3.5.The maxima manifold falls off at about 5600 but they have learned by removing the shelf in the manifold you could make power up higher but Im hoping the cams valve work and head work could get me making power till about 7300 or so.

I'd say JWT, BC, GTM cams etc are probably all decent for top end to 7300 with the proper manifold setup etc, depends what you want to spend. For valve springs just double shim HR springs and you're good to 8k rpm with 11mm lift cams. However, I wouldn't go past 7500 without blueprinting/balancing the bottom end.

As for the intake manifold, there are better choices out there than the Maxima one, even more so if you have VTC control, however doing the shelf/VIAS removal properly should get you power into the 7000's...

Hey Danny suprizes to see you on this thread, How is everything going with your maxima. I posted the same thread on the maxima forums and have not got a reply yet. Shamless . The bottom end will be blueprinted and balanced for sure.

I've been here since 2004 actually but just haven't posted much. My 3.5 build is underway now, should get me pretty close to 11's N/A. Turbo and 6-spd after that next year.

For 600whp you don't need any headwork.

What makes you think you will be making peak power over 7000RPM? How do you know what RPM your peak power will be? You can decide on a 7800RPM redline but what's the point if your car is only making power to 6600RPM. You have to do more than "hope" to make power to 7XXX RPM. I have only seen 1 or 2 dyno sheets showing power being made over 6800RPM no matter what was done.

Ok well thats true but im hoping to make power to 7000 and maybe shift at 7500 or so. I know with my old 3.0 I could make power to about 6800 but I did not shift till 7300 or so do to lots of good power not falling off bad and lots of good useable torque up their. Im hoping with the head manifold work and cams to be able to make good power at 7000rpms. But im not sure that why im posting.
