Default High water temp.

Well this has never happened before and I am not sure if it's of concern but yesterday we had the Santa Cruz run through the twisities and my FCon Navigator started to beep, I looked down and the water temp had hit 101c, I slowed down and tried to roll through the turns and put less stress on the engine. I made it through with no issues but on the way home the temp was always close to 100c and would only come down if I was cruising on a flat plane or going down hill, as soon as I had to go up an incline it would start climbing again.

Now the weather was 92 degrees outside which may have contributed to this and I did call Sam at GTM but he said to just slow down a little which did not really help the situation that much. I checked the coolant tank when I got home and it was full so is there anything I am missing or I can do to keep the temp down, I don't want to have to keep an eye on temp gauge everytime we have hot weather.

I am running the stock radiator and fan system but is this a real concern. Thanks for any input you can provide.

True but driving home at 65mph and still getting the beep form the Navigator 3 times seemed a little odd.

once it gets hot it takes some time for it to come down, specially if you have the stock bumper which is not the best for airflow to the radiator

If it's that hot, wouldn't it be beneficial to get a thicker core radiator and/or the GTM/Forged fans and shroud? That'd probably put your worries to rest.

All right!!!!

You need to pruge the motor for air!
Ever since I went FI stock block and built I have always had to purge my motor. For some reason air builds up in the motor when "I" drive it hard. I usally purge my car every 2 to 3 weeks and allways get air out "ALWAYS" its not a problem from me cuz I am used to it. Your same situation happen to me, and I just went home purges the motor and everything was back to normal.

For all you guys that are FI, go ahead and purge your motor, I bet you'll get some air out. This only apply s if you do some hard spirited driving / tracking.

Luie

Go ahead I'll bet you'll get some air out!

eagle would you please explain to me exactly what you do to purge yours? I do have a "radiator funnel"...the one that sits on top and has its own rad cap...everytime I go high boost a few times I'm back again with overheat issues...but still like I posted above...500+hp with a damn radiator thats 3/4 inches thick? ridiculous..

I'am sorry I thought you had a bigger rad. That could def be your problem, however if you wernt experience the overheating before, then I am sticking with air in the system.

I use the funnel, turn the car on and waut till it hits 170 and then start reving the **** out of it till no bubbles come out I do this for about 10min. then I wait 3 min, plug it and drop the coolant in the funnel in the res and close the rad. Thats all I do.

Luie is right, I purge mine every so often once I drive it hard and you always get a little air out.

What I want to know to the OP how do you get your navigator to beep? That's a cool option if I knew how to set mine to do that...

Thanks guys for all the input, I am going to pick up a larger radiator also and tonight I am going to purge the system, I am not sure if the G35's have the same setup as the Z's so what is the radiator funnel. All I can see is a blue cap and I think that is for the window washer system

The FCon Navigator can be set to beep at whatever you set your limits to so Sam must have set mine to 101c as an early warning system.

if you want to make purging super easy, get a vented higher than stock pressure cap. just drive the car around abit and get it nice and warm, wait 30 seconds or so after you turn it off, then lift the vent lever gently and watch in your overflow tank till only water is coming out of the overflow tube. the air and some water that you purged will create a low pressure in the cooling system and when it cools down it will draw from your overflow tank to replace the volume that was air you purged out.
this makes it so you can literally purge it in like 5 seconds making constant monitoring quick and easy.
