Default UTEC tunning problems with vortech

I went to Japtrix today for my tune and there is a problem with my utec. Here is what happened. First the car was very rich and it would not hold an idle. Then it would idle fine out of the blue. Then on WOT bteween 4500-5500 RPM it would lean out the fuel. My tuner tried evrything possible to correct the problem, but nothing worked. My car did not throw any codes at all. They had my car on the dyno for 2 hours trying to figure this thing out, and all we could come up with is the Utec is bad. What really sucks is that I bought the utec used from one of our members and paid him cash. Now I'm out 650.00 plus the price of a new utec. If you have a vortech tuned with a utec can you tell my if you had any simular problems with tunning and how did you fix it?

Damn it man, that sucks! Are your sure it's grounded ok using the black wire off the molex connector? Did you try reflashing the entire thing and reloading your maps/params?

If you send it back to TurboXS, I wonder if they have a test harness they can hook it up to to determine if something needs to be fixed. Would suck to have to dump another $600+ - hopefully they can just repair it if needed.

I'm going to check the ground again. I really hope that I didn't get a bad utec. I'm hoping that someone else here had the same issue and was able to fix it without any problems. The car drives good somewhat. It sputters every now and then and the highest number pulled on the dyno was 340whp. I also have to give it gas to start up sometimes.

If the ground isn't the problem - try reflashing it with a current .mot. TXS has a nice flash utility that is painless. Make sure to save your maps first though...

I wouldn't even know how to save it. I'm looking at the manual online as we speak. I downloaded the software from their web site. I just got to figure this thing out. I'm guessing I have to plug the utec into my computer before launching the program, right?

That's one way. If you use your desktop computer, you'll also need the 9v battery adapter. Or you can use a laptop and leave the UTEC installed in your car.

If you're unsure and don't feel like chancing it, Jeremy Tibbs @ PF is close to your locale...

Get a hold of Jeremy from Performance Factory . He seems to be one of the few that know how to fix most of the problems with the utec .

I had some problems, we worked it out. Similar conditions, but my issue was a wiring thing. Idiot friend of mine spliced a couple wires dealing with my intake sensor. Never know, sometimes it is something simple that you may have done to the car that created an issue you didnt know about. Not saying you made a dumb mistake like me, just something to consider.
