The knock event you're having is not a big one (in fact, I don't even consider a "1" knock event in isolation to be true knock... Could be a lot of things). But a higher knock count or a few "1" counts in a row probably is true knock.

I think you'll find that knock starts to go away as the ambient temps are lower. But now that the season is starting to warm up, maybe that's why you're seeing knock? Couldn't UTEC control a Meth/water Solenoid at the desired rpm threshold? That might help with the knock as well... For that matter - an oil cooler, radiator combo wouldn't hurt either.

If this is what's happening, that is clearly a knock event. You have a choice to type in a timing value in the 0 percent column. My least favorite! Or Cross over into the 10 percent column a little earlier. Looking at the TPS, RPM and AFR you might want to set your threshold point in open loop fueling a little bit earlier to get to possibly a richer afr target and most definitely a lower ignition timing value.

Side note the stock ecu pulls enough away to make the knock event stop. I am not stock ecu God but they usually have a knock correction map which they store in the ram to keep the events from reoccurring. The problem is depending on how long this correction is applied it may come back so switching to richer target in the 10 percent column would be a much safer direction to go. Also, this is the type of knock of event where you hear of someone just cruising on the highway and they just tip in and the rod immediately goes through the block.
J,

Could his knock sensitivity be set to high? He did say it was at 100 in that area...

This is a rare occasion were the ECU actually pulled timing. My current Open Loop Map Threshold is set to 0 and Map Minimum/Maximum Value is 1 and 10 respectively. If I change the cross over earlier (to -1) then will I need to change my Map Min/Maximum Value too?

I HIGHLY doubt it is actually knock. The engine is under very little load and the ECU is running things and you're just about stoch on the A/F. I run my cruising A/F in the 15s on the UTEC and I NEVER get any knock.

Knock under boost is the only knock you should ever worry about.

im curious what the knock sensitivity should be.. i think i turned mine up 20 from what it came default, i forget the value.

Completely understand, thanks.

I'm also knocking crazy below 3000rpm and my A/F is low 11's to hight 10's, timing is also not that crazy and this is with Water/Meth!!! (I start to spray at around 4psi). I don't think the knock I'm getting around 2000-3000rpm is real knock so I'll probably reduce my knock setting around that RPM. My only fear is that reducing the sensitivity and reducing the accuracy of detecting real knock.

If it was knocking at lower RPMS under boost like that you would be able to hear it. Have you heard a VQ knock?? It's pretty loud and sounds like an amplified and more frequent tick like the sounds an exhaust makes when it contracts after you shut off a car.

Lower your knock threshold around 2k to 3k. by -7 that should fix the false knock but give you proper knock detection.

I would try it... then try to map your afr to match and smooth as possible when crossing into the 10 percent. From your logs apparently crossing over after 0 psi is a little too late and you are catching a few knock events.
You may need to change it but honestly you are the "log king" you should be able to map it out pretty quickly. For now just lower your threshold and post the results. BTW, if i don't reply email me or call me and kick me in the *****.

Thanks, I'll lower my Open Loop threshold to -1 and subtract another -7 on my Knock settings and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the help guys...

so now your 10% column will be your -1psi column right?

Jermaine said to just adjust the open loop map threshold and leave the Map Min Value so fueling will switch over to my 10% sooner. I'm still debating if I should lower the threshold or just reduce the sensitivity to maybe 90 Last thing I want is to screw the tune I have right now, I'm also thinking of getting a full tune in the summer anyways.

mmmm so at -1psi what fuel map is it going off of then? Wouldnt you have to switch your map min value to -1 for it to work? Otherwise it has no map for -1psi or am i wrong? Does it automatically use the 10% column then?

That's why i recommended leaving the min and max. crossing over earlier almost ensures a richer afr target as you tip in under load.
Just reducing the knock threshold in the area that the factory ecu is not pulling timing is just putting a blind fold over a problem.

Can't hurt by crossing over earlier reducing the knock events.

I'm no tuner but I think it will just use your 10% column sooner. I emailed him coz my Map Min Value is 1 so there is a gap between -1 and 1psi. I currently have 0 on my Map threshold but have 1 on my Min Map Value. Base on my logs, I switch to 10% at 0.0psi, hit 20% around 1.5psi, 30% at 2.5psi, 40% at 3.5psi...etc. I asked him if the Map threshold and Map Min Value should be the same and he said no. I'll email him to get more info coz I'm also confused

hmm yes please get back to me... i guess it would make sense for them to make the map threshold automatically be assigned to the 10% column otherwise people would have NO map if they had map threshold at -1 and 1 on the min map value

edit: ok so im reading the utec manual, this makes more sense now.

"Open Loop MAP Threshold allows you to set the cross-over point where the UTEC will switch from the 0% load column to the 10-100% load columns."

right!

Not to mention OLF values only apply to Open Loop Fueling. Some application don't require use of OLF at all. So with the limitation of HyperTerm it has to be this way with a Min and Max for Mapping just incase you were to using the UTEC that way.

/\ got it thanks...

Last more thing, why is it my switch over between loads are not always in the exact psi (ie, 20% =1.5psi, 30% =2.5psi..etc) even though my Min is 1 and Max is 10.

Logging is the last priority of the UTEC. After all you want it to drive the car rather than spit out numbers first. Also don't forget there is a delay if you have a value higher 0 in the Closed to Open Loop Threshold. This is done to help smooth the transition.
