Yeah, the only way you should use someone's map is to get to a tuner, or as a good starting point for a self tune.

Here's my work in progress for Vortech, 650's, Walbro - so it would be way too lean for 440's: http://jon.capcik.com/files/utec_maps/

I will be street tuning my car tomorrow but Jeremy from Performance Factory will be flying up to Wisconsin for the real tuning.

I believe that having a tuner do it is the best way unless you have experience. In my case, the only reason I am street tuning first it to weed out any possible problems I may have so Jeremy does not fly up here and have to fix something like a vacuum/boost leak. I want it to be straight forward for him.

I do believe that tuning a bit by yourself can be benificial in that you learn more about your car.

well none of it is rocket science. esp with a base map to start with. get the AF, then advance the timing, adjust your AF, repeat til you knock and back down.

you'll need a dyno ultimately for the last bit to make sure you are actually making more power as timing is adjusted.

I could care less what you do, I'm just looking out for the OP. It sounds like hes trying to save money by using someones map that was tuned for a different car. if he stated he wanted a base map to use as a base and he was going to tune it himself, then fine, but it sounds like he's looking for a map he can just plug and play. This is different from someone whos going to tune his own car.

While you might be willing to do that, he might not understand the risk involved in using a random map from someone elses car.

I for one would rather spend 450 for tuning (price he listed) then to spend a few grand on a new short block + labor.

I wanted a map so I was at least safe, then I could adjust and tune.

But starting from sratch and street tuning is dangerous

why would you ever start from scratch when TurboXS offers more than a few base maps to start with?

+1 base map is all over the web copying someones custom tune is not a base and should not be use as a base map.

I'd say a fuel map, depending on mods of course, is a good way to start. Quamen used my map I think since he has 650cc injectors.

But it seems to me you should never use someones custom timing map. The base TN seems to be real safe for me to start out with.
