Default High perf radiator or oil cooler for low boost fi.

I just wanted to know what you guys would rather go with for a Low boost FI setup, high performance radiator or an oil cooler. I'm planning on just an out of the box HKS kit, and would like to do a little bit of cooling. I don't think I need to do both for that kind of low boost application, so I'm going to choose either one. What do you guys think would help more?

Any reason why not both at the same time?

I don't have the supercharger on the car yet.....just doing these things before hand. But it looks like everything thinks I should do both. I'm taking the car to get its coolant flush soon, so I was asking now to see if i should just do the radiator now also, but if I wasn't going to get the radiator, I'd just get the oil cooler later down the line closer to my install date.

Buying an HKS kit, i'm sorry but you should be able to budget both. Piece your own oil cooler together off summit for ~ $250 and an AMS radiator. Under $700

I could budget both, I just thought for a low boost application it might be overkill. But looks like now I should lean toward both, which answers my question about getting the new radiator when I do my coolant flush in a week or two.

Its going to be on a G35C, which limits my drop in radiator choices. Theres ARC which I don't really want to pay for and then there's a new Stillen which is drop in for the G coupe. Anyone know of other choices that are drop in for the G?

expect to pay ~$1200+ for the arc.

The hks gt sc complete kit comes with a oil cooler already (albeit a small one).

That AMS radiator is 57mm....wouldn't I also have to replace the fans?

I thought that oil cooler was to cool its self lubricating oil?

If you'll be tracking the car you'll need both.

The HKS kit doesn't feed oil from the engine so an oil cooler would be less critical if only street driven. It has it's own oil reservoir which is one of the many features that attracts me to this kit.

Sticking to getting both of them since you are able to budget, also suggest going to your local tuner (whomever you choose) and ask for their opinion on brands. Also look into the nismo T-Stat which is very cheap. Honestly any modification to help your engine stay cool and keep it running longer is a must have imo.

There is not such thing as overkill when it comes to cooling your engine!

True.

I ran into ONE overheating problem and then started ordering everything I could.

AMS 50mm Radiator
Oil Cooler
Tranny Cooler (5AT)
Thermostat
Samco
FAL Fans
Rad shield

All in one shot. The only thing I'm missing is the pathfinder cooling mod. Too lazy for that rihgt now

Looks like my tuner is recommending PWR, and says he can fit it in with the OEM fans and an HKS supercharger. Its a little bit more than a koyo or the stillen but, its also bigger. I will be going with the Nismo T-stat also.

Are the hoses a necessity? Besides looking cool?

Aftermarket hoses are less likely to experience bulging, and are less likely to tear or rot.

If you end up changing your mind and installing a turbo setup and if i had to choose one i would do an oil cooler setup due to how much heat its transfered
to the oil from the turbos, but these guys are right , wait a little and do both.

just get the Koyo. We just installed one on a recent build and it is easy to mount up without really any modification. Just leave the OEM mounts alone and run a bolt through the front of radiator (there are threaded holes) and use a washer to tighten against
