Vortech going bad?
So I would have searched this but thanks to the GTM engine build banner it blocks the search place where you specify what you want to search.
So yesterday after starting the car I noticed the blower is making a different sound. It is not a bad sound. I actually kind of like it. It kind of sounds like the whine from the stillen supercharger. Before it sounded kind of "clunky" like something was loose. But now it sounds much smoother with just a "whine." Also before this change all I could hear was the bypass valve blowing out air, but now I can hear the whine over that. I was just wondering if anyone had any similir experiences with this. Hopefully this is just the blower finally getting broke in, and not the bearings going bad like some of the earlier v-2 superchargers.

Well the blower continues to get louder and it is now turning into a small shriek. Guess I got one with a bad bearing. Man my luck with this setup is terrible. Oh well...guess I will just have to persevere and eventually in 2012 I will be able to drive the car again.....
Also, check your cog belt to see if it is up against the edge of the idler pulley and wore down to the metal wire inside the belt. Mine does that :-/ Made a bad noise, flipped the belt around, then it was fine. Starting to happen again though...
It's probably not this problem, but it's worth checking.

So today I am driving to work. First off the blower was pretty loud this morning. It went from hum to loud whine. By the time I almost get to work the thing is screaming. So I let off the gas to start to decelerate to take an exit when "clunk" followed by something that either fell of the car of got sucked into the intercooler piping. So I push the accelerator and no whoosh from the bypass valve. "i guess I am N/A now." Then as I go to turn the car shuts off and I have no power steering. I start the car as it continues to slow and pull over on the side of the road. The car dies again. I go to crank it and it tries and does for a second then dies and won't restart. I cut the cog pulley belt in hopes that this would allow the serpintine belt to turn without the either seized or broken blower, but no luck. I am hoping it is just that he engine can't get any air because of the blower so I am going to try and remove the intercooler piping right before the MAF. If that doesn't work then it is far worse and my engine is probably seized. The only reason I could think of this is when stage 6 took the aps oil pan off and put on the spacer they messed something up. i don't know. My main priority is to get it back to Jacksonville and there it can sit in my parking lot until I get the blower back. I am hoping it is just the blower and not a rod or something. Man, will my luck ever change!
If it is the engine I am so done with this setup. I will get the blower repaired and then sell this mother trucker. i would really like to keep it and finally get it working properly for the long haul, but I just can't seem to get it right even after all the stuff I have done.

I dont mean to sound mean or like an a$$ , but you posted yesterday morning that something was wrong . The blower was making a shrieking noise and you didnt know what it was . But today you arise and get in the car a procede to drive it to work knowing something was wrong . You probably had a bad blower that was eating up the impeller . But now you have a bad motor because the pieces of impeller made it through the IC and into the motor . As Ive heard that the peices can make it through everything .
GOOD LUCK !!!!

As soon as there was an indication of something being wrong with the SC, you should have parked the car until you could remove the blower or at least remove the cog pulley belt. Driving the car like that was . . . . . well dumb. Sorry to be harsh bro but what booger said is probably exactly what happened to your ride. Now besides having a bad SC, you probably just killed your engine. In any case, good luck.
yup sounds like the same problem I had. Only difference was I was smart enough to remove the cog belt and drive the thing N/A really slow untill I got the new blower in.
The cost of doing business in the FI community skyrockets if things aren't done correctly or carelessly. Hopefully everything works out for ya and you didn't get Vortech pieces in your motor. The additional cost of rebuilding the motor plus a rebuild of the charger and possibally the bypass valve will be several thousand dollars.

best way to tell from my experience is if when you pop the hood, the sound is high pitched that it hurts your ears, its fcked.
Well the reason I ran the car is that I was pretty sure something was wrong. So a little extra mileage would only ensure me that it would get replaced. It's like the oil issue with the 07 cars.
"Sorry sir/maam', we can't replace the motor because it is right above the level being burnt."
I didn't want to hear that because I was pretty certain the blower was going bad.
I figured the car wouldn't start so I removed the intercooler piping before the MAF. I started the car and it screeched a little then all this smoke came out. I turned the car off immediately and ran to the engine. It was the serpintine belt. The crank pulley had completely eaten through. So I checked all the pulleys in the system minus the crank and found the pulley that connects to the cog that turns the small belt for the supercharger was totally seized. I then took the filter off the blower and saw the impeller fins were completely gone. I am guessing the clunk was the bearing getting sucked to the intercooler. On a much happier note I started the engine again and it purrs like a kitten. I never realized how quiet the car is without the "super quiet" supercharger. I didn't drive it, I just wanted to make sure the crank wasn't seized. But all is well with the engine. I guess I will just go N/A for a while.
So I have decided as soon as vortech sends me a new blower which is covered by a 3-5 year warranty I am just going to sell the kit and save for a single or twin turbo setup. I have learned some valuable lessons with this type of forced induction setup. I am not knocking the kit either. The bearing thing has already been found out. It just never went smoothly for me and I am thinking with the UTEC I could have really had the realiability that the kit is know for. Maybe it is fate and maybe I will be happier with a turbo setup. To each his own. I will say when the car was running right it was good and fast for me. If anyone is interested in getting a brand new setup with no miles on the blower PM for pricing. Maybe the next guy will get it right. Oh well....we fight for what we love.

Phew - glad to hear that the engine still runs. Just make sure no pieces made it through the intercooler. I would probably pull the plenum off and check just to be safe.
I hear ya about it being a loud kit - it's nice to take the cog belt off and drive around in peace and quiet
