Small Detonations
Sooo this sux, completely solved the ac problem, completely re-routed brand new ac lines that were made from scratch from a machine shop, costly but very affective! Loving the cold ac now, need it here in az! Nooow when I get on it and the z goes into boost I hear a slight crackling noise, almost like keys jinglin or paper crinkling. I wonder what the hell it is and am told small detonations when I'm n low rpms goin n2 boost. You gotta b kidding me! I know that's not good! So I've decided to call UMS dyno shop tommorrow to get some quick details on what to do, but I figured I'd ask some of ya'll as well. The reflash unit that comes from Turbonetics with the ST kit, is it dyno tuneable, or is that all you get? I've been told that maybe it's not runnin rich enough and thats whats causing it and that the pistons are running to hot with this damn hot air. Only thing is I'm ONLY ever on it at night when its maybe 80 outside. Anyone have any advise? 03 Nissan 350z on the Turbonetics ST kit btw....
I'm sure a lot of guys are going to say get a utec and that is actually very good advice. The cost of a used one and tuning will not only yield you more power but it will get rid of the detonation which will blow your engine and cost thousands. To see if this is the issue, get a hold of some 100+ octane fuel and mix a few gallons in with a few gallons of 91,92, 93, or 94 pump gas. If you don't hear any knocking you have a lean issue, if you still hear the knocking it is probably something other then a lean condition. Again, I would would get a utec if I were you.

I really REALLY was hoping to take a break from spending so much on the damn z for a while, good lord, wanna go back to school to get the bachelors, the only thing keepin me is the z! Isnt that sad!!! A Utec would do a world of difference huh??
I hear what you are saying and I know how tough it is to spend more money after a build or project but in this game you have to pay to play. Shortcuts often cost you triple or more. You could just do the meth without the utec and probably solve your problem even though it will be a band aide fix it still may work and the snow kit I bought was only $390
snow kit work pretty well? And If I go with the kit, I might as well get the damn utec...seems to always be the problem trying to cut corners huh?? Jst gonna b another 3 grand I get to dump in2 this kit.... you have a link for the snow kit u bought? Wanna check it out, is that the meth inj that you'd recommend?

If you want to save money just do a utec and get it tuned. You don't need meth injection. So the advice above isn't really right. Meth will get you in trouble then you will turn up the boost and so on... If people would stop being salesmen for products around here everyone would benifit from it. He just needs to stop the detonation. Almost everyone knows that the Tn reflash is a hit and miss. Next will be bigger injectors, return fuel system,built motor. If budget is of concern do what you need to fix the problem, then enjoy your car and move on with school. Never let a car stop you from getting a education because you spending your money on it instead.

Why do you have to turn up the boost with meth? I'm using it and still running the same boost... You can still use it as an added safety for your car. Meth is very beneficial if you live in a state that goes above 90F all the time. How can you say lowering your AIT, EGT increase octane level is not a good thing. You only raise your boost or add more timing if you want more power because Meth allows you too.

He should have UTEC's in-stock with the map sensor. If he doesn't Intense has them on the shelf too. I would get the UTEC, have Tony install and tune. Make sure you have a wideband when you get it tuned.
Meth is a good accessory to have out here, especially since we are starting to see 100+ every day now, but you don't need it to fix your problem. Turbonetics creates the highest AIT's out of any kit, and you need to keep those temps down to help prevent detonation.

Yeah, I'm not sure why h2o/meth would be a bad suggestion. However, the UTEC would be the better way to go because what happens when you run out of meth? I would want to be completely safe off of meth, and be able to turn things up with meth on.

i didn't take it as bad advice, Ur correct, it would be a bandaid fix, and that's not what I'm looking for, I need to go UTEC apparantly, It's unfortunate that such a large company can sell a kit with so many slight defects....ie the ac prob, the heat prob, and the tuning prob. I guess I need to compensate for it and go get the utec, just wondering if it would be extrememly beneficial to just get the meth injection as well, just get it done u know? Thx for the info guys, I talked to UMS already, they of course recommeded UTEC, werent so sure about the Meth injection.

Looking out for what's best, but I'm really tired of hearing "after this the car will be perfect!" theeen something else comes up! BTW will be posting pics soon! The ac is finally PERFECT! which suprisingly was a freakin task!

-Oil Cooler
-Radiator
-Utec or Standalone
-Oil Temp, Water Temp, Boost, and Wideband gauge.
-Tune to spring pressure
IMO, that will get you close to perfect. Heat is our enemy out here, but with your current setup and adding a UTEC.... Tony should be able to tune your car to where you need it to be. Meth will be a nice safety blanket/power adder if you decide to get on it for a couple of runs or a weekend at PIR, but you have to refill it when it gets empty so it's not cost effective to run meth 24/7.
Just do the UTEC and a re-tune for now, and that should get you going for your daily adventures on the I-10!
Edit: If you can budget in a Nismo T-stat, I would do that before we start seeing 115+, JMO
