My Twin Turbo Build is Under Way
#203

[EDIT: I would like] to make a custom turbo system to my specifications with ALOT of Roger's help, of course (OK, Roger is doing most of the work, but I'll have my hands in their too). I can't let go of the Engineer in me. Roger thinks I'm just plain crazy. ![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Don't get me wrong, I love the results I have seen so far, but I can't stop thinking about how it would be if I designed it. I'm not saying it is going to be better than anything already on the market, nor will it be something suited for everybody, but it will have my own personal touches and suited to me.
Since I started this project I have always looked at everything and thought about how I would do it. That's why I designed my own surge/swirl tank and my own meth system (using Coolingmist's components). Since the engine is pulled out, I figure now is the time to do it to the engine. Besides, I get great enjoyment out of designing things and seeing the end results, which is probably more important to me than the actual hp numbers I put down.
Stay tuned. As we progress with the build I'll post pictures.
Of course, selling some of these parts to get working capital will make things progress much quicker.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Edit: I just heard about some of the prices that were being offered for the Greddy TT kits.
If I don't get a reasonable offer on the Greddy TT kit within the next few weeks, I may put the custom turbo system on hold. Although I am very excited about doing a custom turbo setup, and I'm willing to suck up a reasonable loss in order to move on to the next project, I'm not willing to part with my Greddys (they have served me very well) for the offers I just heard about. My kit is nearly brand new and laid down over 600 hp on 93 octane on a Mustang dyno... With meth, higher boost and more advanced timing, I'm sure my Greddys will get me to 750 RWHP. Again, the custom turbo idea was more about the experience than the HP, but I don't want to leave a perfectly good turbo system sitting in my attic. If it sells, great, then I'm proceeding. If not, I'll wait until the next time I drop the motor out.

Terry good luck with the project. Did you try the z club (sfzcc.com) down here? By the way I saw your bearings, I didn't think you could do that to metal.

I know. They were ACRs with the special coating. I must have put alot of stress on those things. There is a chance that when I over-revved it I had some pre-detonation, but there was not evidence of that on the pistons. The pistons and rods were in great shape.

LOL because I'm nuts? That I'll agee with. ![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Nonetheless, I will assure you that the Greddy's are definitely making power.
I am more than a little indecisive, but this is what Roger has been dealing with since I started this projiect. What can I say (really nothing, except perhaps a personality flaw.)

Here it is:

Mine is one of the quieter cars out there. See the pass right around 3:20 into the video. That is with the Evo TT Exhaust. The APS 2.5" is even quieter.
The magnet on the left hand side with my number blew off during the first or second session, so I improvised by using painters tape to make the number on that side.

I haven't weighed it yet, but its not light. I figure between the twin turbo setup, the intercooler, the two oil coolers and and the extra chassis braces, I must have added at least 150 lbs to the weight. The Seibon hood saved about 8 lbs (not much). The main reason I added it was to help vent hot air out of the engine compartment.
Once I get the racing seats and ditch the spare tire, this should help shed just about the same amount of weight I have added with the other mods. Carbon Figer fenders won't help save too much, but if I ever make it a track only car, I'll go with Carbon Fiber doors. That will save alot of weight, but I wouldn't want to drive around with them on the street just in case some fool runs into the side of me while I have my wife or one of my kids in the passenger seat.
