well its a separate thing, Sp happens to be a PL and proefi dealer....
other dealers can make their own standalone bundles with the PL tuner kit

I had my Utec on my TT/N20 stock motor for a long time with absolutely no issues. I still have the Utec on my TT/N20 built motor but I will be going with a FCon soon...... its all in the tuner

The UTEC is a great little unit. If TXS would ever write some new code for it, it would be even greater. From what I understand, the resolution is there for greater control over a wider range of boost, but we need some new software from TXS. Also, the UTEC has knock control which alot of other units don't have. as such, you can set the UTEC up to pull timing when knock is sensed. properly setup, the knock control should be able to prevent damage from engine knock.

Exactly what you said... They push the ProEFI's and the F-Con's. I think I remember seeig Larry post something like he vowed never to sell another AEM EMS, or something.

I know he pushes the ProEFI pretty good on Supraforums, and it's getting really good response. They have a few videos on youtube.

the utec works fine for a low cost engine management. a lot has to do with the tuner that is tuning it.

+1

About 95% of our stock block builds are running the UTEC...all running great and no blown engines yet.

I guess this means I'll be going to GRD if I ever want to get my timing map tuned :-/

It's a shame there isn't a shop around here that has tuned a lot of UTECs.

Yup. My car is running fine with ZERO problems, and I get on it at least a almost every time I get in the car. I will say that startup sucks, but that has more to do with the EMS than the tuner.

tuners saying utec blowing up engine is crazy talk.
they should go back to 'toon' town.

I'm not 100% sure, but one thing for sure is that GRD has tuned the most utec's in the Chicagoland area. They did a great job tuning my utec (when I had my Z). Although I know a stand alone is a much better EMS, the utec was perfect for my particular needs.

unichip isn't bad, as long as the tuner knows what he's doing. I know a bunch of guys using the unichip for a few years or more. However, the more power you want, you will need to upgrade your EMS.

I agree. Unichip is underrated. sure, it's nowhere as good as a standalone or maybe even utec, but I'm still running it and it did me well so far.
