The last pipe in the PL kit...the one where the wategate recoonects to dump into the exhaust. I want to put my cat there....are there sensors or bungs in that pipe?? Can i put a cat here and will it work right??? please help!

The pipe all the way to the right is the last pipe of the kit; which the dump pipe attaches to, and you bolt the exhaust to. The curved looking pipe closest to the right of the I/C is where all three O2 bungs are.

can't i just put the cat in that pipe? i told them i don't care about the codes if it saves me time and labor

they want to put in the pipe with the 02 bungs....but if both sensors are down from the cat...the upstream and downstream won't sync anways since they get the same reading....right? this seems like an odd place to put it (in the bent pipe with the sensors)...more work and labor for no reason

The farther downstream you put the cat, the longer it'll take to start working after startup. It needs to heat up to start catalyzing the chemical reactions. That's the only drawback to moving it downstream (other than CELs, which you may get anyway). For turbos, moving the cat restriction downstream helps relieve backpressure related issues.
Then it shouldn't be a big deal. You can always heat wrap pre-cat also if the smell at startup is noticeable. If you can place the stock rear O2 bungs after the cat somehow, then you can possibly get away without a CEL as well.
As RC said, you could put it in either location, but it just seems like more work to put it into the DP rather than the rear section. Unless there is something we don't know about like clearance issues or something.

no issue with clearance since the rear pipe slopes down to the lowest point anyways and the cat is on the pipe sloping up. I think they want to put it there because it might pass emissions...but it might not so it does not seem worth it, right? I just don't want to pay more for something that is worthless.
so recap:
1. 4-6 inches farther from engine/turbo
2. may not heat up as fast
3. if the the cat was put in the downpipe, o2 sensors would be in front of cat POSSIBLY getting rid of check engine light (can't they just do the non-fouler mod?)
Now...does this create tuning issues?

Right, I am willing to accept the light being on, thats not the issue. My whole goal is to remove MOST OF the smell at idle and the smell in the car when driving. plus this saves my azz from EPA fines if they ever decide to throw the book at me in a traffic stop. (you never know in NJ...)

I have twin 200 cell 3.5" inlet/outlet cats and they work fine for killing the smell. They did drop boost by 1.3 psi vs. test pipes (backpressure), but mine are located in the stock location, close to the turbos. You can get these bullet cats from Eastern Catalytic Inc. custom made to fit your exhaust piping for a few hundred $$$.
I was driving behind a bunch of boosted cars at ZdayZ and my god I felt sorry for the people that used to have to drive behind me then...
Test pipes stink (literally).

There's not a lot of room to work with between the first set of O2s and the 2nd, also keep in mind, the drivers side O2s are
1. in down pipe,
1. after the cross over pipe on the drivers side.
the passenger side O2s are,
1. in stock manifold.
1. in the drivers side exhaust next to the other 02s.
The cat I believe needs to be between the first set of O2s and the 2nd set, with that being said, you would have to put the cat on the downpipe.

I have ZERO smell unless I'm sniffing my exhaust, as far as driving I get none of it.
I have no clue as to why you still smell it.
I remember talking to you in the past about having a fuel smell but that was tracked down to my FPR leaking fuel into the engine bay, now that it is fix I have ZERO smell other then the normal smell out the exhaust that again, isn't really noticed when driving the car. I pretty much only notice it when I'm inside my garage.

We decided to put it into the downpipe....the space is pretty tight in there and it would have to have been placed far back and it seemed like it would not get hot enough. it will be welded into the downpipe. Hopefully it'll help with the smell a bit. As for the cabin smell, we are going for a ride afterwards. I have taken a couple people with me and they definitely smell it too....i literally stuck my head about a foot outside of the car while driving to smell the difference, there was not fresh air coming into the car even doing 45.
Now that i know i am not crazy, we are going to check it all again once the cat and tuning is redone. Julian was thinking it is simple temp corrections since it was freakin HOT the day it needed to be tuned. I am confident this will solve my problems...i just hope I don't loose too much boost and or power....based on the company i bought the cat from and Vibrant themselves...this seems like it'll create minimal restriction, especially paired up with my new JIC.
I opted out of the EBC and 9 psi map for now....it is a decent amount to get used to now as it is....once I get bored, back it goes for the retune/boost raise. I think i'll have to hold off on the GTR race for now...but maybe i'll do it anways just for sheer knowing.
I had a chance to check out the JIC exhaust on the car...that think is pretty close under there to the diff and rear crossmember...MRC is going to put a small spacer to get it a bit farther away....i am really interested to see how this thing sounds!!!

jeffie may be right and you have a fuel leak somewhere causing more smell than usual. driving 45 you should not have any smell coming back into the car. something else is wrong. i hate fuel vapor stench, and am very sensitive to it, but I only really smelled it when it was parked in my garage or if I'm standing directly behind the car.
