When I had the 3.12 I was just under 10psi. With my 2.87 untuned and 103 octane I hit 11psi before I let off. I think I could have hit 12psi though.

Many people would say I am pushing reliability on my 3.5, but with it being supercharged and not making the torque like a turbo I think it is fine.

3.5 swap in a maxima with JWT knockoff cams, everything else stock.
V1 S-trim with a 2.70 pulley at 12 psi at redline.
7000rpm redline.

I made 273 whp N/A, 366 whp on 6 lbs of boost, and have not dynoed on 12.

The maxima is quite a bit lighter than a Z so its not a fair comparison, but when I keep the rpms between 4500rpm and 7000rpm it feels unreal.

A heavier car will do better with the torque from a turbo for sure though.

What does your Maxima weigh? Those are pretty good numbers in your signature.

With a lightweight aftermarket clutch that makes a lot of noise below 2200 rpms, I pretty much don't ever see under 2200 rpms anyway unless I'm taking off in first gear. Even then, I idle around 1200rpms so even just a light take-off I'm still starting to move the car at 1600-1800 rpms.

If you run a shorter final drive, reaching higher rpms happens pretty quick anyway. I probably drive around town normal around 2500-3300 rpms mainly to avoid the clutch vibration noise but also that's just where it feels good. I might be wrong, but I get the impression most drivers cruise around the streets at more like 1500-2500 rpms

You're going to downshift anyway if you really want some acceleration. This really is the wrong car for "lazy" style drivers who like to get on it real hard at 2000 rpms in 5th gear. If you're doing that, even a small turbo is going to lag slightly before it starts giving you much boost.

Bottom line is you're going to downshift into at least a semi-aggressive gear for semi-aggressive driving. At mid rpms, you can probably manage to keep a turbo spooled. Either FI method works well with the right driver. A big turbo will let you reach stupid levels of power, though not that many people are able to get traction to use it anyway, but at least it impresses other car guys
well said!

...agreed!.....the instant hit of spray gives you the best power under the curve as well...

so out of the three SCs you see most on this forum (Vortech, ATI Procharger, Stillen)....which would be the best choice (for auto tranny)?

With all the research i've done myself on this topic first things first. I would not buy anything Stillen.. Not bashing the products but they seem overpriced underpowered and not appealing to the eye. Vortech seems like it has the power but i'm not a fan of tapping the oil pan which you do not have to do with the ATI. So for me if i were to get a SC it'd be the ATI hands down..

Nope no disaster here. I even added a spacer so there was no risk at all and very easy. Now I don't ever have to worry about it. I would hate to have to drain and refill the ATI every 2500 miles. I have gone 5000 miles on a Vortech that I bought used so it has about 15,000 total miles on it and it works great. I do change my oil about every 2000-2500 miles and only use Synthetic though. Per Sentry's advice in his thread which everyone should read if they want to go Vortech.

When it comes to personal preference I like them in the following order Turbo, Roots S/C, Centrifugal S/C. In my experience I don't like how the centrifugal chargers build boost in a linear fashion. This means that boost builds as rpm increases with the highest boost numbers reached towards redline or shift points. This means that by the time it gets fun it's time to shift. I like turbos myself because there is no belts to drive so when you are driving the vehicle on the street it behaves as if it was naturally aspirated. With a properly matched turbo kit you can reduce lag and get a good kick in the pants when you mash on the throttle. Roots make great low and mid range torque are known to loose efficiency as you climb the RPM ladder. Just my .02 cents.

I agree with Trevor. Nothing runs good without a good tune.
