Default Cams and vortech

I am really considering purchasing cams and I was wondering what kinds of gains I should expect, what kind you guys would recommend for a non rev, and what am I looking at to install time wise.

Thanks guys

realistically, probably 20whp

it'll vary a little with the trade off of low vs high rpm power

the smaller the pulley or stronger the blower you use, the more benefit you'll get from them, but they're not going to perform any miracles

it's pretty much around $2000 to buy cams and get them installed. That was 3 years ago anyway. It might cost more now...

IMO I don't think JDM matters at all. JWT and GTM both make perfectly good cams

You want a N/A or SC cam . Cams made for turbo's will not produce the best results .

about 8 hours. Easily a full day at least for someone who knows exactly what they're doing

turtle, I tried answering your PM, but your inbox is full

not many people have really tried any of the non-mainstream brands or really extreme cams with the vortech. Obviously you do NOT want cams that are too extreme that are meant to make power at 8000 rpms because you will never rev that high with the vortech

IMO I wouldn't go too extreme. Something in the middle of the road is usually what most people are looking for in the end.

Its a bit more then 8 hours. Alldata calls for 14.7 hours and that if you leave the factory springs in. Cam install on these motors with the motor in the car isnt fun at all. Have to take both front and rear timing covers off along with the bottom oil pan and loosen the top oil pan. Then you gotta deal with your main seals.

Also...quality...JWT > BC

do the springs if you're going to rev beyond the stock redline of if they're more aggressive than the JWT S2 cams

Tell me if Im wrong here ........but doesnt boosting a car reduce the spring rate of the springs as boost rises ? Making going to a stiffer spring a must do ?

It can sometimes make the vavle float, but there are also other things that contribute to this. Our factory springs and heads are very nice from the factory and I have never heard or anyone having valve float due to springs softness on these motors.
