Most of the time you won't. It is more likely to see coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, air in the coolant, smoke in the exhaust, low compression... but now fluid running down the block from the heads. What coolant are you using?

Nothing ever came of it. It actually disappeared. I run 50/50 water coolant. I have a Koyo radiator but Im not sure which one. I had it with the Vortech kit so Im thinking it might be the slimmer one. How can I find out which radiator I have?

This sounds dumb but I have seen Barsleak leave that residue. Has the radiator or block/heads ever been used with that stuff? I used it on a car once for a simple leak from a radiator a couple days before a race because we couldn't get it fixed and then flushed the system after getting the radiator fixed. I still continued to find it for a long time after though.

ya thats why rad caps have 2 steps. one to releive pressure and one to take off.

and ya you're right, it was definitley caused by the plug.

The "official" nissan RTV is an orange color. Just a thought, maybe it was applied a little heavy at, say the rear coolant crossover pipe flanges, and squeezed into the coolant passage.

The official nissan RTV is gray last I remember. Orange indicated the high temp RTV, which nissan doesnt use.

The RTV that comes with a Nissan factory engine rebuild kit (gaskets, ect.) is orange. The FACTORY RTV is gray. I have a tube of orange nissan gasket maker sitting in my garage from my build.

I have some wierd flaky **** in my overflow canister too. I was worried about it, but then I have had my oil analyzed 3-4 times since I first noticed it. I have had ZERO coolant in my oil analyses...so, I suppose the opposite is also true. I wouldn't worry about it.

I didnt get any rtv in my rebuild kit, so that would explain why I havent seen the orange used.

The factory rtv that the engine comes with off the assembly line is still gray. Unless they just wanted to use gray on mine.

I'll be damned if I didn't look into my coolant tank today and see the EXACT same thing. Weird.

Not really sure...all gaskets involved with the cooling system are rubber or metal IIRC. It could have just been a little rust. Which is no big deal. Unless you see a lot of it and your coolant gets cloudy, I wouldn't worry about it all.

Where would rust come from? Rust requires Iron to make the iron oxide. What part of coolant exposed system is made from anything but aluminum alloys?
