Default Fuel System Noise

For those with a Walbro pump/and or return fuel system, do you hear a "hum" coming from the back?

I was told high performance fuel systems can be louder. The "hum" is fairly pronounced when at idle, but not noticeable when driving (b/c of engine/exhaust noise).

Any way to lessen the "hum"? dynamat maybe?

Yeah, mine is quite loud. It seemed to get louder just recently too, so maybe the factory sound insulation mat back there slid back or something. I wouldn't mind putting another layer back there though just to shut it up a bit.

me too, just started to get a little louder with the cold weather. Glad to hear it is a "normal" issue. Yea, there was only one layer of insulation mat when I took the back seat out of my G. Maybe I will add some more insulation. Thanks for your input!

Fuel density and volume changes with tempratures. The sligtly denser fuel will cause a slightly higher strain on the pump. Not too much, but probably enough to change the pitch sligtly diffrent than what your use to and bringing it to your attention. It's not that it may be lounder but probably at a diffrent resinanace than your use to.

Hell I notice that even in Hawaii. In the summers when its warmer all the time its has a slightly lower pitch, not much strain. In the winters when its a little cooler in the morning and warmer in the afternoon I can hear the pump in the AM and the noise goes away closer to mid day.

IMHO, Such is life with a high volume fuel pump.

I would recommend a Weldon external pump mounted to the driveshaft tunnel if you would prefer no fuel pump sound.

j/k.

^ Yup, same here, I got CJM twin pumps..
It gets louder as it heats up. It's a little annoying but we just have to live with it for higher performance... I do have lots of dyamats around the fuel tank area... They do lessen the noise, but not much. I'm thinking about putting in a fuel cooler to keep the temp of returning fuel low.

does it actually get louder as the car warms up or is it possible that it just sounds louder since the idle sits lower at operating temp?

I don't even hear mine. If I'm really quiet and not moving around when turn the key to on, I can just barely make out the pump run before startup.
When the car is running I can't hear it at all.

I have my whole interior out of my g35 right now and the back you can hear the Walbro Fuel pump very well when I first start up in the morning...temp is about 45-55 degrees here in the morning....when I get going you will hear it sometimes at stops as well. Its normal is what I have read.

I'm sure I'd be able to hear all 3 pumps when they are running when I'm at 30psi....but the open wg dumps are a bit noisy

Mine are in an internal surge tank which is in the middle of a bunch of foam immersed in gas inside a bladder inside an aluminum shell and behind the backseat of my car and the pumps are still loud.

It definitely gets louder as the engine gets heat soaked. It hums pretty loud after driving for longer than an hour. Should I be concerned or is this normal? I believe pumps are running fine, but I would like your input Charles.
