Is the fcon vpro worth the money?
actually I may have to take that back, there is an option to "protect" in the software I will have to check it out when hooked up to the Fcon and see what it does, it may put in a password never played with it before.
Im currently running the unichip piggyback on my aps st. But i feel like my car would feel and run so much better with a standalone ems. People tell me its a night and day difference. The only reason why im considering changing ems is because there is a stutter when i shift gears in high rpms due to an issue with the unichip. The easiest solution would be to get a new ems. Do you guys think its worth the money? What ems gives you the best bang for the buck? I figure a new engine management system is probably one of the most worthwhile mods for an FI'd car.
Please tell me your input!

i have the exact same issue. funny thing is that my friend's got an FCON and has the same issue. Could it be that the fuel cut is intentional when it was tune for safety measure? whatever the case, it's bugging the shat out of me. I'm also running the unichip. I'm starting NOT to blame on the issue on the unichip. This type of hesitation should never happen.

I really like the F-CON V Pro, but I have never tried the Haltech, although I have heard good things about it. The nice thing about the Haltech is that you do not need to be an authorized dealer to get inside of it.
On the other hand, the F-CON V Pro has a lot of very powerful features, for instance multiple fuel/maps that can be selected (I am automatically activating my scrample maps everytime my Meth system is turned on and deactivating them when the meth system is turned off). The F-CON V Pro includes two-step rev limiting, WOT shifting, timing correction when knock signals are detected, a variety of configurable outlput voltages and output switches, etc. All in all, a very powerful EMS.
The Haltech may include many of these features. It may be worth looking into.

I think its definately worth the money, as is a Haltech.
But the better question, is do you want to spend that much new money on EMS and tuning, while still running the stock block and a single turbo kit?
You might want to consider a simple UTEC and tuning. She'll be smooth and nice for a stock block mild boost. But no question, the FCON is a great system.

dropping almost 4$ for am EMS (fcon, knock amp, dual widebands..)with a low HP setup is crazy. for that extra 1% difference it gives over a UTEC, like Sharif says, its just not worth it. You dont need that much control or tweaking to run smooth.
But if no bucking between on and off boost is worth 3000$, then its worth it to you!

the only concern i had was that UTEC had its own set of problems. Turboxs, i heard, does not really update their software or make improvements on their unit. can anyone speak for utec? or any comparable ems?
the only real issue is controlling bigger than 600cc injectors bc when the car is 1st started, the stock EMS is in control. Might have to blip the gas to get started. Mine only does that once or twice in the summer.
Other than that, tuning is straight forward and easy enough to learn on your own. Its widely used in other cars (subaru esp) so the tuner base is huge as well.
Sure it doesnt have all the bells, whistles and control that a FCON or Haltech has but its less than 1/3 rd the cost. For cars around 450 whp, its perfectly capable.

I'm interested in this as well. Sharif, can you answer if there is a proprietary tune capability and it can be password protected?

I like my F-Con V Pro. It provides a lot of functionality. It does not automatically get locked after a tune, as some have suggested, but there is a locking option. If you go with an F-Con, I would make sure that you make it clear to your tuner that you do not want it locked.
I have never used the Haltech, so I can't opine as to how it compares to the F-Con. But if I did not have an authorized HKS dealer in close proximity to where I live, I would have given the Haltech a try.

Any HKS Pro Dealer can log into an FCON, unless the previous tuner setup the password protection/locked the maps. If the FCON is locked, then the tuner would need to start from scratch, or a previous basemap.
