Remember a lot of the ticking is the injectors.

My injectors are LOUD. And the pro-EFI 48 is still batch firing them (the 128 box doesn't do batch). So if your ECU still is doing batch firing then you have all 3 injectors on one side firing together making mucho noise.

Sounds kind of similar to mine too. The faint ticking sound speeds up as you rev the motor. Is this a normal built motor sound (not the expected loopey cam sound), even if you don't have aftermarket cams, valvetrain or headwork done?

I've also heard the valve or ticking noise could be "valve lash"?

i know injector noise bc mine are loud too lol...to me this distinctly sounds like the cold valve lash was not setup properly.

I was just throwing it up there lol.....Hard to pinpoint noises in a video. But all seem to sound the same lol.

I know SP's car with the individual firing injectors is much quieter than mine.

Hold up guys..... I posted that vid for Jay'Z and his concerns. There is nothing wrong with my motor. The valves were adjsuted by a specialist that builds race motors at Headgames in NJ, I will assume that he knows what he is doing. Frank and Dave both say that things sound normal and that upgraded valvetrain adds some noise along with the taller plenum making it slightly louder yet. I admit it sounds like a tractor in the vid, but it seems fine to me.

I took that vid 10 seconds after a complete cold start, the car gets markedly quieter and less loopy after it reaches operating temp. Also, please keep in mind that the car is running right now with the wastegates pinned open (no springs) and on the Up-Rev reflash only, there is no EMS even installed on the car right now, just the stock ECU.

I was only wondering because your motor sounds similar to mine and I "don't" have any headwork, upgraded valves or cams.

It sounds normal to me....all the VQ's are loud in general lol.

I run the Toyo T1rs (admittedly on much less power than you'll be pushing) and have been very happy with them. I was running 295/30/19s in the rear and they gave me very good wet/dry traction and good cornering. I've also heard good things about the KDWII's but heard that they are a bit louder (which it sounds like you are trying to avoid). I'm gonna run the KDWs up front this summer to get a feel for how I like them...plus I got a steal on them

All the other tires I researched either had several blowout/feathering issues (Kumho) or several negative comments concering road noise (BFG). These look like a fair compromise and are reasonable on price. The tires I would really like are the Pirelli's, but they are crazy expensive. The reality is that probably no matter what tire I run I will have the ability to break the back end loose at will.

I just got my final bill from Hill's today so I think I will wait a few days before purchase since I have spent enough for today.

Load index and speed rating.

Load index of 100 = 1764lb (per tire of course)

Yes the tires are Z rated but that is a generic term these days. Z mean 149+mph (no speed defined specifically above 149mph). When cars started reaching speeds of 150+ easily in stock form the tire companies had to do something so in came new speed ratings.

Speed rating of Y = up to 186mph

Mike (XKR) has been running the ADVAN Sports for a while now and seems to like them. I have the Bridgestone RE050A and they have excellent dry traction for a max performance street tire.

I know your budget is tight at the moment, but with your power level(s), I personally would get wider wheels to accomodate wider tires. If you get a 10.5 inch rear in a suitable offset, you could get the Toyo R888 in 305/30-19 and all you might have to do is roll your fenders (if you haven't already).

FWIW, I run 19 x 9.5 with 255/35 in front and 19 x 11 with 305/30 in the rear without any rubbing issues. I drove this setup for a little while including a track day (road course) at Firebird Raceway before I left my G with Intense to go under the knife for the FI build.



As far as your question about getting a proper alignment with the car being lowered...

If you don't know an alignment place/person within the VQ community, I suggest you go to an alignment place that works on Porsches and exotics. Obviously, they will have more experience with lowered and high performance oriented alignments than an everyday average alignment shop. It will cost more, but it's worth it for a proper alignment done right the first time.

New tire and rims seem like a minimum of $4K though. Definately NOT in the budget right now. I like my 5Zigen rims since not many people have them, but they are discontinued now, so an upgrade in size on the same wheel is not possible. Looks like the Yokos FTW!!

I will call the local Porsche dealership and see what they have to offer for the alignment.

Frank found the source of my rattle today. It seems that the exhaust is hitting the crossmember when we go over hard bumps. He thinks a few small spacers will do the trick.

Mrs. Hill was nice enough to rinse the salt off my car since I dropped it off when it was snowing. I still haven't seen it out in the sun for myself. I'm planning to pick up the car this weekend and bring it home for a good cleaning prior to heading to F:T. Its so dirty its making my OCD a little crazy just looking at the pics. Its in the 40s again outside after a few nice days, but I have a hot/cold hose hookup in my garage with a drain built into the floor so I can wash my car inside with the doors down .

I couldn't get the pics to load normally because of some security BS or whatever, so from photobucket this time:

Where are you at in PA?? I was hoping that some of the local F/I members could do a mini-meet or two this summer. I think there are 4-5 of us in central PA right now. We might even convince some of the Baltimore/MD crew to roll up north to hang out.

I live in Schuylkill County. I don't have a z I'm only 19 and still in high school. Maybe in a year or two when I'm financially stable I want to get a 370z.

Considered it after seeing how clean rookie's fx35 looked, but time, cost and a lot of cutting and splicing didn't seem like a good idea. If I decide to go more show car down the road I will do the wire tuck when the motor comes out to paint the engine bay.
