Default Super Charger Help

First post here.

I am looking to supercharge my Z...specs are in the sig. I have done some very light mods to the car.

I have found many different types, brands and prices for superchargers (SC). Does anyone here have any thoughts on the Stillen SC? Other then needing a new hood, which I am looking at getting a carbon fiber one, is there anything wrong with this supercharger?

It seems to be the least expensive and Im worried that it will also be the worst performer. I have googled all over for reviews from owners and not much out there.

Besides being easy to install and pretty much self contained are there better SCs out there that are just as easy to install and maintian? Does anyone here run one of these?

I don't want to go the turbo route as I have heard you basically need to get a second engine to work on as it is a major modification.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

you may get flamed man. good luck.

1) Read top 100 Questions

2) You might want to post/search in the FI section. Actually just start reading all the posts in the FI section. You should be able to figure it out.

Hey thanks for pointing me to that thread. A lot of great info there...except for if anyone is using the stillen what their thoughts are on it, what the install was like, and if it was worth it all in the end. I did read the which super charger/turbo post, and I am ready for the worse if that should happen. Again I am looking for owners of the stillen to say Yes or No. Because truthfully I do not want to go the extra mile or spend the extra money on a more advanced SC kit.

If u don't have the money don't go F I because cost overruns happen.

Plus stillen is as expensive as all the other superchargers.

Do your self a favor and save up and do it right the first time.

Good Advise I am sure.

From what I have seen the Stillen seems to be several thousand cheaper. Also the least amount of gains. Cost isnt really a factor except Im cheap and I would rather not spend tons of cash.

Haha..well at least you are honest.

Is $5K to spend enough? $3800 for the SC, $800 for the hood..+400 extra left over...Or are you saying the Stillen just isn't worth doing...go for a higher end supercharger? In which case I agree with you, and won't be doing it.

Otherwise Im just gonna save the cash and sell my Z then get a 370z.

i think i read somewhere that the stillen only made like 50-60 more hp...to me its just not worth it..and u have to get that ugly hood...r u gonna install this urself? what about the ems? who's gonna tune? all that is gonna cost more money...i got quoted for TT between the prices of 9-12k for kit and install...u do the math

I am lucky to have a very nice shop at my disposal and am fairly mechanically inclined, so yeah I would be installing it...as for the tuning a fellow SCCA member is willing to help me out.

The hood...well I tend to agree it doesn't look that great. But I do kind of like the carbon fiber one...same overall look though.

I guess I need to figure out my true Cost/Per HP ratio on this an other superchargers. Hadn't done that yet. Maybe stillen is the cheapest, yet least gains = not the best bang for the buck.

For the money, I would consider a used turbo setup with a simple EMS like Utec to stay around $5K. You should be able to get a 100whp bump or so with that and stay on your stock block, IMHO.

Good Luck. BTW - congrats on avoiding getting flamed so far. 1st post + new thread = almost always ends badly.

I think all forums could stand to be a little nicer than just say "search"

It takes a person just as much time and effort to type "search newbie or I'll flame you!" as it does to just type a quick answer to the guy's question in a single sentence or two.

stillen sc????......

op better watch for the

There is no simple answer to this... other than to say stillen is the worst performing FI kit for the Z basically...
Realistically even if OP is mechanically sound he needs to research more on the Fi options and understand he is too much on the cheap side

Thanks for the response. That was basically what I was looking for, and yeah...I already said I was to cheap to go bigger then the Stillen. Haha.

To me $8k upgrade on a car with 55K miles seems pointless, especially after seeing the new 370z. Think I will use my cash, and sell my 350, to get a 370.

Again thanks for all the answers. Consider this thread closed.

used SC or single turbo setup for 3,500$ or below. just make sure you are buying it from a well known member and you are fine.
