Default Twin Turbo sizing when using stock block

So, I've looked around at the available turbo kits, and something I've noticed, and maybe its just me working under false assumptions, is that the standard size of turbos that come with the kits, is generally much larger than what you need, if you were still on a stock block.

For example, the Greddy Twin Turbo kit comes with a pair of 18g's. Now, the max "safe" power level I've gathered is something like 400whp. Considering the compression of the engines, etc, aren't we talking like 8 to 11psi? Wouldn't something like twin 14b's be better (cheaper and quicker spooling)?

And, if that IS true... could I buy a greddy kit (for example, doesn't need to be greddy, really I would just need manifolds and intake piping more than anything) without turbos and get some cheap 14bs?

Am I making any sense here? lol

did u hear or read about JWT 530bb ? its the fastest spooling TT Kit Available it won`t reach crazy numbers but believe me it spools faster than the others due to the smaller turbos and you can upgrade them to bigger and bigger turbos 700bb and the 850bb JWT name their turbos close to the max efficiency of the Turbo Kit hence the name 530bb.

Maybe companies like Greddy assume if you are the type of person that would drop $6-7K on an aftermarket turbo kit you may want someday want HP in excess of stock block limits.

If you want stock block power and a turbo then buy an evo and STFU.

The 18G gives you room to up the boost if you want. If you want to up the boost, build the bottom end.

Match the bottom end to your turbo selection, not the other way around.
