Warning for all ATI pre-installs
unless you wanna bust your knuckles up really good.......before you install the C-2 compressor, break loose the drain plug on the bottom of it and re-snug it.......i just did my 500 mile oil change and it was a huge pain in the azz........coulda saved myself a headache if i woulda just broke loose that plug
I'm going to see if I can manufacture more user friendly plugs... I'll install them on all my installs, and probably sell them for a few bucks. The damn head of the plug is just too thin.
For those of you who already have their Procharger installed, and are having problems getting at the drain plug, this is what i had to do. Keep in mind this was done in the case of a partially stripped drain plug head. Not much, but enough to complicate things.
1)Remove the strut tower brace, engine cover, and the intake/MAF assembly that leads up to the throttle body. Loosen the jack shaft tensioner, and pull the cog belt off the compressor's side cog to give you more room to work with
2) pull open the drivers side fender liner to expose the elbow connections that lead to the intercooler.
3) trace the silver painted intake tube below the compressor, and remove the clamp that secures it to it's elbow below the fender liner.
4) pull out that intake tube up through the engine bay.......when you can't go any farther with it, rotate it 180 degrees, and pull again.........this tube is hooked at the end, so it's a lot of fun trying to get it out of that space.
5) Now that you have some room to work with, use a 5/8 stubby combination wrench to break loose the drain plug......make SURE you're squarely on the bolt head, because it's angled, and it's slightly counter-sunk........not being squarely on that bolt can strip it.....if you strip it then the only thing you can do to fix that is pull the whole frickin compressor out, and nobody wants to do that.
6) change the oil, and reverse these steps for assembly.......aren't you happy the next one isn't for 6000 miles?
