autometer EGT gauge issues..
I have one of these in every diesel I own so I definately know how they are supposed to work....but the one in the Z has been erroneous since I got the car. It starts at 800 degrees meaning thats where it is when I shut the car off. It will climb with acceleration of course and sometimes it will peg past 1600 degrees. Anyone ever experienced this before? Is it maybe a bad thermocouple or should I just trash it and buy a new one? Yes of course I am running a A/F Wideband but this damn egt gauge is in the car and I want it to work like its supposed to.
Any help is appreciated..

looks like you got the greddy kit right? honestly it really depends were the egt sensor is located( few inches matters alot) and the tune. i peak at around 1400 but have a different kit and very conservative tune. 1600 isnt obserd

Yeah, I have had turboed diesal pickups (cummins) in the past and I was surprized to find how much hotter a gasoline engine ran. I have dual steward warner gauges, engine warmed up 800F at idle, 1200F driving around town not in boost, & I try to keep in down to 1400F while under boost. Of course if you stay at full boost for more than 4 seconds it gets really hot down there(+1600F). PS my thermocouplers are located on the exhaust manifold right before the turbo on each side.
