EGT Exhaust Gas Temp Gauge probe location
If installed on the pipe reading should not exceed 1380F
If installed on the manifold 1550F
I realize all of the "JDM" gauges read in C. That translation is 749C on pipe, and 843C on the manifold.

Should not be higher than those temps. Investing in a Peak/Hold style gauge with a warning LED is money well spent in my opinion. Set the warning LED to flash well before those posted temps, to give yourself a lil time to back it down. Also consider that there will be a little lag between what your EGT's actually are, and how long it will take the gauge to tell you so. If you are consistantly climbing temps at a rapid rate, it's time for a retune. Either too much boost or timing without enough fuel to back it up is the culprit most of the time.
You guys are awesome! Thought this was a dumb question at first cuz i found nothing searches. I have the defi VSDX and all I need to get is the sensor and also need to see how I will do this with my powerlab kit.
The difference in the location of the sensor would cause the difference in the reading only if the two cars were identical, exact same mods, exact same tune, in the exact same atmosphere. The gauge and sensor type are irrelevent as long as both provide an accurate reading.
What DOES make the difference is the set up you guys are running, as well as the tune. A Few degrees timing or an extra pound of boost without sufficient, or even too much fuel will make a drastic difference in EGT temps. Atmosphere also affects EGT readings for obvious reasons.
Both your cruising temps are normal and safe regardless of the 100degree difference. It's how fast they climb and what they climb to at WOT should be the thing to keep an eye on.
