Default forced induction VS. preformance and cost effectiveness

All,
i am currenlty driving an 06 touring 350. In the time that i have had the vehicle i have looked at many turbo kits as well as fuel systems and ECU flashes. The problem i am having is i cant seem to find anything that i can think i can trust. Thus i am turning to you. i am just curious as to what fellow owners have chosen and what they reccomend for someone whom deffinately want's to go forced induction.

there are so many variables..

if you do go FI, there is so many opportunities for something to go wrong, there is also the same amount of possibilities for everything to go right.. things just happen..

that said, the less the power, usually, the safer it is, also tuning is obviously very important.. i would go read the threads in the FI section if i were you

Do some search on reputable shops around here...I know I'm gonna miss some but here's some good ones at your disposal

Sound Performance
Forged Performance
Injected Performance
GTM
AAM

(those were listed in no particular order)

Next you need to set a base goal on what you want number wise (hp/tq numbers). Then start researching what mods/kits will get you there. Figure in an extra 20% of your already figured up budget b/c there will always be more to tack on throughout the build/process.

DE blocks are good to about 400 on the stock block
HR are proving to be good to 500+

Honestly...I'm planning on going w/ Sound Performance and doing a Powerlab kit on my stock block DE. Shoot for around 390 or so on both sides of the dyno and save for overkill on block/fuel.

Most of your areas that you need to be concerned with can easily be overcome w/ the proper fuel setup/supply plus a tuner that knows the in's and out's of building/tuning the VQ platform...not to mention the engine management you use...which IMO you should use whichever one your tuner is most familiar with all the while yielding the best/safest results you can get.

Performance - Reliability - Cost Effective

... choose any two.

- In my case I've spent almost $20K on just the motor and have none so far. I would settle for having one right now.

The more planning you put up front, the better things will be. And for God's sake, listen to you tuner...

With FI, plan on things going wrong. Test, test and re-test.

In your case, just take all your build money to Chris at SP and say "make me as fast as this much can buy". That shop just builds fast cars - period.

Before you jump in, ask yourself: 1) do you want a fast car or 2)do you want a 350Z turbo?

If you want a fast car, skip the game and go 06 Z06 vette. You save time and maybe even money based upon the used values right now.

If you want a turbo Z, then get ready to sacrifice some things in the name of power/performance.

I'm over 20k deep WITHOUT a built motor....once you dive in, it is hard to get back out. If you do dive in, go with someone you trust.

Or do you want the experience of customizing and improving a stock car? Once you get there, there you are Now you have a 400+HP Z that has well, the same top speed as the 287HP Z, but now the rear tires are way to small to grip the pavement And what is the fun of having a 400+HP Z unless you can unleash the beast once in a while, which means, yes I see a ticket in your future . So enjoy the BUILD! May it never end

2005 SC Roadster Stillen Stage III/IV
RV12 Light Sport Airplane, Both wings done. On to the fuselage build.

I was kinda shocked myself.

I completely understand where the OP is coming from though. I have read a lot (probably not all) of the threads in this section. I've been researching going FI for almost a year now. I want to go FI, but it's a really daunting proposition. There are just SOOO many options and so many pitfalls. Not to mention that its scary when you see someone buy all the seemingly high end parts, plan their build right, and use a well respected shop/mechanic and things still go wrong. For a lot of us (myself included) who want to go FI, we could probably afford the inital build, but maybe not the seemingly inevitable rebuild.

It's kinda dizzying.

My 350z is my DD also. I assure you if you find a good shop and you let them know its your DD they will build you a very Moderate Tune/Build. I would go with the new Greddy 20G. Its making GREAT power per Psi. im pretty sure forged is doing a bundle pack with install and tune for a great deal. That kit in my opinion is very reliable if you run a moderate Tune. Its a great Platform also. I believe many people have made well over 600 with the 18G turbo's i would assume that the 20G have more capability.
