I had a fright today...
So I was swapping me and my wife's car from our tandem parking spots in our condo; while I was backing up my Z, I stalled since I wasn't paying attention to what gear I was on...no biggie, so I thought...
When I restarted the car, she started idling VERY roughly...I figured maybe it would clear itself out...but when I stepped on the gas it started sputtering, and wouldn't go past around 4k rpm no matter how hard I stepped on it...I try and drive it around the parking area...sputter, sputter, won't go past 4k rpm, rough idle, black smoke sputtering out of the exhaust...man can you blow an engine stalling?
Anyway I turn it off and on a few times...I figured maybe I was in LIMP mode...no CELS, though...I was about ready to try and take the battery cable off to reset the ECU, but on the third restart it started normally again, still a bit of black smoke when i revved it, but it went away after a bit and has been driving normally since...*whew*
Anyway, I've never had my car go into LIMP mode before...so when I stalled my car,
did I go into LIMP mode?
did I flood the engine?
or did I do both?
And would simply stalling a car induce this sort of behavior? I've stalled my car before and never had this happen, although I wasn't FI before...
And most importantly could I have caused any damage to the engine based on the symptoms I have mentioned...
I have to admit I was calculating the cost of a built engine from GTM in my head while all this was happening....
BTW, I have a stock block revup, Osiris, Vortech, 650cc injectors...

Usually you will get a light with limp mode, just in case still check for stored codes just in case
do you have a fuel return? can you see fuel pressure?
Also maybe injector(s) stuck open.

Yah...I'll check again with my ODB2 reader when I get back to my car...
No fuel return...just the injectors and Walbro...I don't have a fuel pressure gauge either...
Are you thinking that I had a stuck injector for a bit that cleared itself out...?
I've never flooded a VQ so I have no idea what that's like either...

well if it went away you are fine, it was probably a combination of stalling the car while still cold and the ecu adding fuel from cold engine and maybe cold outside temps and then when you tried to restart it dumped more fuel in. If no symptoms now you should be fine.

That's a relief...lesson learned; don't be an idiot and stall your car...
I hope I didn't burn out my cats...I've already burned out my OEM ones, probably from over-richness..
