Nice setup, gotta love the old BB turbos. Sweet DSM too man.
You gotta get some drag radials on that car and go back to the track.
Did you get a CEL when you went to the built block for any reason?

No worries Sharif, I hope I get a chance to hang out with you guys again, it was a lot of fun.

The only CELs I got were an occasional fuel trim related code when I had the injectors scaled with the UTEC, and cat efficiency codes due to the test pipes.

The ol' spark plug anti-fouler trick fixed the cat codes, and through tuning of the factory ECU, I got the fuel trims and all where they needed to be without disabling those specific codes.

Blinker, how long did it take you to install and tune your G? Also how much more time did it take to build your motor?

It took about a week to install the turbo kit working on it a few hours a night. Tuning was pretty quick, I was 90% done in one day.

It took a day to remove and disassemble the engine, and I spent 1 day reassembling the engine and a day putting it back in the car.

As mentioned before, were I to start over, I would remove the engine to install the turbo kit, it should save a few hours in install time.

That's awesome bro! I fanasize with doing the build myself and although this would theorhetically be my first FI project I understand how setting aside the proper time, investing in the proper parts, tools, and knowledge can pay off.

Kudos Blinkerfluid. You've inspired me as well

Did you ever record any other clips of your G?

I completed a small project between yesterday and today so I figured it's about time for a little update.

I decided to do a tuck to get rid of the horrible looking wire loom running right across the front/top of the engine.

I started at 10AM and finished at about 6:30PM, not a bad Sunday project.

I came to find out that all 6 coils are grounded to a single point by one 18-20ga. wire. Not how I would do it. Each coil got its own dedicated ground wire. The power feed was also unacceptable in my eyes. 1 14ga. wire feeding power to all 6 coils, both cam phasing solenoids, and what I believe to be a noise suppression capacitor. Power was also routed in a giant fail of connections. It's all been sorted out.

Here's what it looked like before.

During.

Complete.

Here's what was left over. Old loom, brackets, and wire.

Tonight (Monday) I decided I didn't like the look of the vacuum hose running to the BOV and into the MAP sensor. Here's what I ended up with.

Not much different there, but the hose is gone.

I removed the plenum from the engine and removed, tapped, and plugged the original port with a bolt. I then drilled and installed a barb fitting under the fitting for the power brake booster. I also removed one of the ears from the drivers side of the plenum, shaped it and installed another barb in it for the blow off valve.

Now I'm happy with how it looks, other than the fact that the timing covers and plenum need painted.

Driver's side.

Passenger's side.

Much better.

nice work. the ignition wiring does leave a lot to be desired and really makes it difficult to add in an ignition amp (without screwing with the cam solenoids). I don't mind doing wiring work, but that just looks like a pita... Did you cut out the wire loops that were built into the ignition wiring? I presume they are there to add capacitance to certain parts of the circuit but I'm not certain...

Thanks for the compliments.

Nope, I actually didn't remove the lower plenum and didn't attempt to take pictures.

I don't think it requires a login. The red car got a mechanical fuel pump, a carbon hatch and lexan window recently.

The way I rewired it, I left provisions to add an ignition amplifier while the wiring to the cam solenoids will remain unchanged (from how it is now). It wasn't too bad once it was all said and done, but the last time I did such a job I did the whole car. The loop that is on the passenger side valve cover I believe to be a loop to allow an inductive pickup to get a tach signal, that one still exists in near the factor location. The other appeared to be another provision for an inductive pickup on the total ignition system, but it's exact use I am unsure of.

I believe it was about 80 connections all said and done.

*Edit* That thread on G35Driver for the GSX hasn't been updated in years.

Sick Jesse.... I guess you weren't kidding when you said you were going to tuck your harness by cutting instead of just hiding/re-routing like us mere mortals. I'm looking forward to the Brothers meets starting up again shortly

Props on the tuck job! After reading this thead a year ago and picking up my own kit, I've decided I'm gonna let an expert install it vs. trying to go at it alone

Wish I had the ***** to redo my wiring as well. Your engine bay looks much cleaner now
